Two USATF Oregon Members
Earn Certification as World Athletics
Race Walking Judges
Two members of USATF Oregon were recently certified as World Athletics Race Walking Judges. Roger Hall and Marie VerMeer completed the rigorous testing and were certified as WA Bronze Level judges.
They are the only WA Certified Race Walk Officials in Oregon and in the Pacific Northwest!
This new certification allows Roger and Marie to judge international race walking competitions.
Race walking judges are responsible for making decisions about race walkers by observing a progression of steps within a specific viewing area. They use paddles with symbols to indicate when a race walker is losing contact with the ground or the advancing leg is not straightened on contact. If a race walker receives three warnings from different judges, including the chief judge, they are disqualified.
Marie is the Chair of the USATF Oregon Race Walking Committee and Roger is the Vice Chair.
