2022 Chicago Restaurant Week

Dear Neighbors,
As we've reported in previous newsletters, the City Council has been working for months to redraw the lines of the 50 wards throughout Chicago. Since the beginning of this process, our goal has been to preserve as much of the existing 43rd Ward boundaries as possible.
The second goal was to reduce the number of aldermen representing our community as many of you testified during public comments in the City's remap process. This map accomplishes that goal by restoring the traditional representation of the rest of the Lincoln Park community to the 32nd Ward, which lost most of Lincoln Park in the 2010 remap. The Chicago River area, including the Lincoln Yards development, is returned to its home in the 32nd Ward, where it was situated for many years prior to the creation of the gerrymandered 2nd Ward.
As we shared this week, the City has committed to a feasibility study for the North Branch Park Preserve. This further intensifies the need for the return of the potential parkland site to Alderman Waguespack's ward. He has been a strong and consistent supporter of this effort since the beginning.
Both goals have been accomplished in the newly finalized Chicago United Map. This is the map 33 members of City Council support and more importantly, this map reflects the majority of public input we have received. You can view the full map here or by clicking on the image below.
This map will be one of the options on the ballot on June 28. We will continue to update you with any developments leading up to the vote.

The Chicago United Map preserves the current boundaries of the 43rd Ward except for changes dictated by the need to maintain legal population requirements. Over the last ten years, the 43rd Ward experienced the 4th highest increase in population in the city while many other wards lost population. This population growth is a testament to our community, but it means that the 43rd Ward has to shed some of its current constituents.
Diversey Parkway will be maintained as the recognized line between Lakeview and Lincoln Park. The new western boundary will be the east side of Racine down to Armitage. Alderman Waguespack will return to areas of Wrightwood Neighbors on our western boundary. Alderman Hopkins will take many Sheffield Neighbors blocks, which is a community in which he lives and is familiar with representing.
The alderman's job is to be the steward of the community for now and into the future. While not ideal, this map is the best alternative to keep our community together.

Mask Requirement for Ward Office
Although rates of COVID are much lower right now, The Chicago Department of Public Health allows individual offices to continue to require masks. Because we serve the general public and some of our staff are more at risk, we will continue to require masks when visiting our Ward office.

The Park District's spring session is around the corner and registration starts next week. You can now view their spring offerings on their website, which include a variety of in-person and virtual classes for all ages. Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce Business Protection Tips
Recently, the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce released some business protection tips during their annual "Meet the Police Commanders" Meeting.
The full list can be found here but some of the highlights are:
- Keep cash handling to a minimum and make bank deposits as often as possible, but not on a predictable routine basis
- Invest in automatic timers for lights outside (motion detector lights can help deter would-be criminals)
- Share information with neighboring businesses and residents
- Attend Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meetings for your neighborhood.

This will be an opportunity to hear from the two leaders at the front of the efforts continuing to keep our City safe.

The DePaul Art Museum is proud to present their new exhibition "Remaking the Exceptional: Tea, Torture, and Reparations." Guest curated by artists Amber Ginsburg and Aaron Hughes, this exhibition highlights connections between policing and incarceration in Chicago and the human rights violations of the "Global War on Terror," while celebrating efforts toward survival, justice, and reparations by imprisoned people, activists, and artists.

Charity Concert for Ukraine

Two Lincoln Park neighbors have organized a concert to support relief efforts in Ukraine. on March 19th, at 5 pm, at the National Shrine of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini.
Two talented musicians, Anastasiya Squires (flute) and Stephen Squires (piano) will perform a primarily Ukrainian program that includes works by Franz Doppler, Zhanna Kolodub, Evgen Stankovych, Igor Shamo, Reinhold Gliere, Myroslav Skoryk, and Mykola Lysenko.
This charity concert for Ukraine is focused on raising donations to help people suffering in Ukraine from unjust war and who are in dire need of medical help, shelter, food, and even water in some cities and villages.
Please consider supporting the people of Ukraine. Donations will be accepted at the event. 100% of all donations will benefit the charitable non-profit 501(c)3 organization United Help Ukraine and support relief efforts in Ukraine.

Chicago Restaurant Week is a 17-day celebration of the city’s award-winning culinary scene. The 15th annual event brings together hundreds of the area’s top restaurants, representing a near-endless array of cuisines. During Chicago Restaurant Week, diners can enjoy special prix fixe menus from restaurants throughout Lincoln Park and the Gold Coast.
These multi-course meals are $25 for brunch or lunch, and $39 and/or $55 for dinner (excluding beverages, tax, gratuity, and delivery fees).This year, diners will continue to have the flexibility to experience Chicago Restaurant Week through dine-in or takeout/delivery options.

The Chicago Park District is partnering with Friends of the Parks to host a few Earth Day clean-up events in parks throughout the city this year. See details on these events below. Thank you for making a difference in our city and our world. Happy Earth Day!
Sign up for a socially distant clean-up at one of the parks listed below. All work will take place within strict COVID-19 guidelines, which include mask-wearing, maintaining social distance, washing or sanitizing hands frequently, and a 100-person limit. For this reason, some sites are scheduling volunteers in shifts. Please note that mulching will not be a part of this year’s options, and there will NOT be a culminating fair at Humboldt Park as has been done in the past.
