This week numerous Congressional committees will begin to craft a massive $3.5 trillion economic package that among other things could address climate change, expand health care for the poor and uninsured, increase federal programs aiding low-income families, and increase taxes on the wealthy. The package, which likely will be considered under the budget reconciliation process, will need a majority of votes in the Senate, meaning it will likely need every Democratic Senator’s support.
The bulk of the activity will take place in House committees, with the House Science Committee, the House Small Business Committee, House Ways & Means Committee, House Energy & Commerce Committee, and the House Education & Labor Committee set to meet on Thursday, and the House Agriculture Committee to meet on Friday to discuss the package. Congressional leadership have expressed their desire to move the reconciliation bill and a $1 trillion infrastructure bill this month.
