Congress Funds the Government Into the New Year

President Biden last week signed a continuing resolution (CR), H.R.6363, to fund the government into next year at FY23 levels.

This “laddered CR” provides funding in two parts. The first part, which expires on January 19th, funds most of the appropriations areas of interest to NEMWI and pertinent to the Great Lakes, including Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Energy and Water Development, and Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The second part expires on February 2nd, and includes defense spending among other appropriations.

Also included in the CR is a long-term extension of the Farm Bill, funding programs that would otherwise have expired at the turn of the new year. The Farm Bill is now extended until September 30th, 2024, giving Congress nearly another year to pass a new Farm Bill.
