NEMWI Tracks Legislation Impacting the Great Lakes
Congress is set to reconvene this week after a two-week recess. Before the recess, several pieces of legislation that could impact the Great Lakes region were either introduced or acted upon.
At the end of March, the House passedH.R.1, a Republican crafted energy bill aimed at increasing the exploration, development, importation, and exportation of energy resources in America.
Among the newly introduced bills in the House are H.R.1729, the Water Affordability, Transparency, Equity, and Reliability Act of 2023, which would establish a trust fund to provide for adequate funding for water and sewer infrastructure; and H.R.2521, the Clean Drinking Water Equity Act, which would amend the Safe Drinking Water Act to increase subsidizes under the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for drinking water improvements in under-resourced communities.
NEMWI will continue to monitor legislation relating to the Great Lakes and Water Policy with the Great Lakes and Water Policy Tracker which is available here.
