Giving Tuesday To Be Marked by Northeast-Midwest Institute
The Northeast-Midwest Institute, as a non-profit institution, is marking Giving Tuesday 2022 tomorrow, Tuesday, November 29, 2022.
Constituents of NEMWI will be asked, as in past years, to consider making a voluntary tax-deductible contribution to support the non-partisan policy education work that is NEMWI's hallmark.

Congress Enters Final Stretch of 117th Congress
Congress returns to Washington this week for a lame-duck session to finish up the work of the 117th Congress. Key issues that Congress will have to address during the upcoming weeks include the FY 2023 appropriations bills, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and other legislative items.
With a deadline of December 16th to fund the rest of fiscal year 2023, it remains unclear how Congress will finalize the FY 2023 spending bills. Congress will likely move forward with a large omnibus appropriations bill, but top appropriators have yet to release details of such a bill.
Additionally, Congress could take up critical authorizations bills such as the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), which could include such provisions as increasing the federal funding share for the Brandon Road Project.
This week the Senate is expected to focus on the Respect for Marriage Act. The bill protects same-sex marriage on the federal level. In the House, Democrats will hold leadership elections, with Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) expected to become the caucus's next leader.
The Northeast-Midwest Institute has released its latest Manufacturing Legislative Tracker, updated as of November 28, 2022, monitoring manufacturing policy-related bills in the 117th Congress.
NEMWI monitors Congressional bills relating to manufacturing, including bills related to sustainability and manufacturing-related bills in general, and bills impacting the northeast and midwest, and the Great Lakes region. The tracker includes information on each bill, including summaries, sponsors, and most recent actions on the bill. Each entry includes a link to the full text of the bill on congress.gov.
The tracker includes notable legislation such as H.R.4346, which is the Supreme Court Security Funding Act of 2022 but which also incorporates the CHIPS Act. This bill was signed into law by President Biden in August and guarantees funding and creates tax incentives for the domestic production of semiconductors, alongside other science initiatives.
Also included in the tracker are a number of recently introduced bills to support clean energy and manufacturing practices, such as the S.4559, or the SUPER Act of 2022. This bill would support research initiatives to reduce pollution from iron and steel production.
The Manufacturing Legislative Tracker is organized to categorize House and Senate bills and by bill number. You can view this latest Tracker here. We also actively post about notable manufacturing legislation on our Twitter page, @NEMWInstitute.
