New: La Mariniere Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine

Country: France

Region: Loire Valley

Grape: Melon de Bourgogne

ABV: 12.5%

Winery notes: ‘Muscadet’ is an area within Loire France and is not to be confused with "Muscat" which is a grape that produces a very different type of wine. Melon de Bourgogne Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine vineyards are composed of volcanic, alluvial soils that provide a surplus of nutrients and minerals. The wine is aged ‘sur lie’, which means that the wine is left with the lees (yeast, pulp, seed, skin) for weeks or months, adding richness.

Tasting notes: In the glass the wine is pale, sunshine yellow with green reflections. The aromas are of golden apples, white plum and fresh citrus zest with mineral notes and hints of light white pepper and seaside salinity. There is a light nuttiness as well. On the palate the ‘sur lie’ process elevates the complexity providing a richer base and creamy texture for the ripe fruits and mineral notes to rest on. The salinity continues from the nose - a brine and sea salt note, with fresh citrus zest, crunchy apples, pears and light lychee nut. Expected acidity, cleansing and balanced with juicy fruits and light herbal qualities.

Pairings: This wine is perfect for seafood! Steamed mussels, oysters, crab salad, poached scallops, or fried clams. Also great with white pizza, salads and chicken dishes.

New: 90+ Cellars Limestone Coast Shiraz

Country: Australia

Region: Limestone Coast

Grapes: 100% Shiraz

Alcohol: 14.5%

Winemaker Notes: Shiraz has found a home here in the coastal regions of South Australia. Long, warm summers ensure the grapes achieve full fruit and tannin ripeness, resulting in expressive aromas, a velvety texture, and a finish that keeps going. The iron rich red-clay soils of the Limestone Coast produce black fruit driven wines with a slight spice.

Tasting notes: Inky purple in color with aromas of spicy blackberry, red plums, and a seductive smokiness, this wine is round and juicy with subtle notes of olive and vanilla on the finish.

Pairing: Enjoy with savory short ribs, barbecued meats, hearty beef stews or a juicy cheeseburger right off the grill.

Our Price: $10.00

Ezra brooks 99 Straight Rye Whiskey

Proof: 990 Proof

Mashbill: 51% rye, 45% corn, 4% malt

Ezra Brooks is distilled using the highest quality ingredients, it ages the old fashioned way and is charcoal filtered to deliver a beautifully mellow flavor and smooth finish.

Tasting Notes: Hints of chocolate, leather, vanilla, and spicy grains, balanced by slightly sweet and oaky tones.

Bourbon Obsessed Review: As readers of my reviews know, I’m not a big rye fan because the ones I’ve tasted always seem to be over-the-top with spice. Not this one. It’s surprisingly mild for a rye, and if I didn’t know the mash bill ahead of time, I would guess this was a bourbon. The light rye on the nose gets masked by peppermint and honey. The light flavors on the tongue quickly get overshadowed by a medium to long finish that kicks the rye properties into high gear.

Conclusion: Bourbon lovers often complain, and rightly so, about rising bourbon prices. So when you find a gem like this, grab as much as you can. It will make a terrific Manhattan or Old Fashioned, but it’s good enough to drink neat or on the rocks. I see this as something that will go well on a cool evening when you need a little bit of heat to cut the chill. -Ray Marcano, June 24, 2023
