Pond Mountain Inn January Newsletter

Happy New Year & Thank You!!

Kay and I are always striving to make your holidays and vacations extraordinary!! We are experimenting with new & original breakfast recipes, while still offering all your favorites. We enjoy exploring Vermont's most remarkable places that we share with you in our newsletters and on our website. We would like to thank our guests & friends for their contributions of "great finds" and "amazing photographs" that together make this place so special!
New Skete Monasteries Cambridge, New York
In 2016 the Monastery celebrated its fifty year anniversary.

Just forty minutes from the inn, many of our guests love visiting the monastery.  The Monks and Nuns of New Skete is a community of men and women dedicated to monastic life since 1966. Everyone is welcome to visit and pray or simply to have some quiet time for reflection. There are retreats, seminars, tours and events and they also breed & train German Shepherds! And, if nothing else, the Nun’s cheesecake is worth the drive!
What Does Vermont & New Jersey Have in Common?

According to United Van Lines more people are moving to Vermont than any other state, while New Jersey saw the most people fleeing the Garden State!
Our Neighbor Just Over The Mountain Captured This Little Guy!
Thanks Jim for sharing this December photo!
Christmas at Pond Mountain Inn

Our guests spent ten days skiing , hiking, painting the landscape, and just relaxing around our roaring fireplace before dining in Dorset or Manchester.
On The Slopes... Stratton Mountain

Pond Mountain Inn is perfectly situated to ski Stratton Bromley • Killington • Pico Okemo • Magic Mountain. Our holiday guests skied Bromley & Stratton exclusively, and we spent an afternoon at Magic Mountain!
The Eastern & Oriental Express • Singapore to Bangkok

Fly into Singapore and stay the night at the renowned Raffles Hotel (currently undergoing renovation) before traveling on one of the most magical and memorable train routes in the world. Immaculately appointed vintage Pullman carriages take you through breathtaking Southeast Asia.

We hope to experience this once-in-a-lifetime adventure with friends next year!

Classic New England Oyster Stew

Kay's traditional Christmas oyster stew was well worth the wait again this year. The oysters were much larger than in previous years and were as plump as they were delicious. Maybe I'll see another batch in February?!?! Here's the Recipe
Total Lunar Eclipse • January 20-21, 2019

Vermont may get a spectacular view looking into the sky as the moon may display breathtaking colors from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and perhaps gray.

Partial Eclipse Begins: January 20 at 10:33 PM
Maximum Eclipse: January 21 at 12:12 AM

Thanks to Patrick Honan, Founder of the Dorset Astronomy Club for alerting us to this and other fun things going on in the night sky this month… Comets, Meteor Showers, Lunar Eclipses, Solar Eclipses, Moon Landings, Kuiper Belt Object Flybys and Asteroid Rovers!

(The photo above is Galaxy M81, about 12 million light years away from Earth.)

Two Interesting Videos & One Amazing Video

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, about 100 kilometers from Bangkok is considered the best and most frequented of all the floating markets. It consists of a maze of narrow canals best navigated by boat (yes, that's Kay at the end of the video)

See just how large Earth is compared to other planets, moons, stars, black holes and even galaxies in our universe.

We never watch this show, however this magic trick is as adorable as it is amazing!
