Bishop McDevitt High School in Discussions for Addition of Winter Sports Venue

Bishop McDevitt would like to extend its congratulations to the Men’s Wrestling Program for an unprecedented year of success. The Men’s Program had a school record eight of its student athletes who medaled at the PIAA AA State Wrestling Tournament.

• Sophomore 107 pounder Braiden Lotier took home an individual title.
• Junior 139 pounder Camden Baum (Purdue University commit) and Seniors Ryan Lawler and Lucas Lawler (both Bucknell University commits) finished runners-up at 152 and 215 pounds respectively
• Sophomore 127 pounder Greyson Music emerged victoriously from the wrestle-back bracket with a 3^rd place finish.
• Juniors Liam Lawler and Easton Comp and sophomore Nicky Negron took home 7^th place finishes at 121, 145 and 160 pounds.
• As a team, McDevitt finished as one of the highest scoring 3^rd place teams in PIAA history, behind only Nationally Ranked #1 Faith Christian Academy (Quakertown) and Nationally Ranked #2 Bishop McCort (Johnstown).
• McDevitt will close the season with a consensus top 20 national ranking.

This season also marks the second season of McDevitt’s PIAA sanctioned Women’s Program. Participation totals for the Women’s Program doubled in the 2024-2025 season. Participation in the Women’s Program is expected to grow significantly next year and represents yet another outstanding option for student/athletes at the school.

On the heels of the continual growth and unprecedented success of the Bishop McDevitt Wrestling program, the excitement has brandished conversation from a donor to fully fund a state-of-the-art wrestling and weight training facility on the campus. Discussions have been on-going as early as last year as the donor has identified that current facilities do not adequately meet the needs for the growth and success of the program and other needs for the school. We understand there may be discussion in the community regarding this project.

While the project is currently under review to seek approvals to proceed, concept drawings have been developed with the collaboration of stakeholders from the school. Pending successful approvals and blessing from the Diocese of Harrisburg, donors would like to establish a timeline to make the new facilities available for the 2026-2027 school year. This new facility would more than double the school’s current capacity for the wrestling program and provide nearly triple the capacity of the school’s current weight training facility for all sports.

This project would substantially upgrade the school’s current resources and available use by all Varsity and Junior Varsity sports. A preliminary rendering of the proposed facility is included below.
