PRESENTS
Supporting Teens and Young Adults
with Asperger's
What is Asperger Syndrome? Twenty years ago it was a new and little-understood term, while today almost every educational setting has students identified as having AS. This workshop will discuss how the clinical features of Asperger's impact teens and young adults as they navigate the social world. A viewing of the critically acclaimed documentary film, The Asperger's Difference will provide participants with a perspective of Asperger's as seen through the eyes of teens and young adults with the diagnosis. This film will provide a foundation for further discussion about how and when to convey information about their diagnosis and help ensure an accurate understanding of their unique strengths, talents and perspectives. Specific issues tied to self-esteem, self-disclosure and self-advocacy skills will be addressed and transition planning and supports for entry into college or the work place will be discussed.
