New York's Proposed Budget Eliminates the Medicaid Resource Test What Skilled Nursing Facilities Need to Know

On January 18, 2022, Governor Hochul unveiled her proposals for the 2023 Fiscal Year Budget for New York State. Within these proposals is an expansion of Medicaid services to low-income individuals aged 65 and over and those with disabilities, allowing these individuals to secure Medicaid eligibility after they become eligible for Medicare coverage. Governor Hochul aims to accomplish this by eliminating the resource eligibility test and increasing the income threshold for benefits eligibility to 138% of the Federal poverty level for Medicaid applicants.
