Welcoming in 2026 with a look back at 2025 | | As we begin 2026 and look forward to the new programs, favourite books and opportunities it will bring, we reflect on the books that made the strongest impressions on our Library staff and the titles that were checked out the most over 2025. | | | | | |
|
"I loved this book because it weaved timelines and countries together in the story of rivers and how societies have harnessed water in ways that both help and harm us told in the narratives of a few fictional characters."
- Bond
| |
"My favourite fiction book of the year was The Sunflower Boys by Sam Wachman. I read this months ago and I still can't stop thinking about the writing - incredible debut novel!"
- Rya
| |
"It was such a beautiful, tragic and hopeful rendering of how women had so much strength when they held so little power."
- Lisa
| | |
"A fantastic cozy fairytale for grown-ups that made me laugh out loud."
- Meghan
| |
"This was a funny, heartwarming story about three adults who meet in a court-ordered anger management class. I found the characters relatable and loved that the story was set in Vancouver."
- Sonia
| |
"For a book that takes place after we're all gone, this graphic novel was surprisingly tender and human. Funny, moving, informative, and beautiful. There are even little sound pieces you can listen to to enhance your reading experience!"
- Rachel
| | |
"I think a standout for me in 2025 was Mark Twain’s classic novel Huckleberry Finn reimagined as a different perspective. The story is from the viewpoint of the slave, Jim – or James in this re-telling. There are some fabulous twists to the racism that was portrayed from original story. I won’t say more but I encourage others to experience this novel. You will not be disappointed."
- Martine
| |
"Lush, luminous writing about a very dark subject matter, I simply could not put it down."
- Kirsten

Various artists: Earth, Wind & Fire: Epic group exhibition
Mixed media, photography, paintings & prints
The Foyer Gallery in the Squamish Public Library put out an invitation for local artists to create a submission to be part of this wall-based exhibition exploring the elemental forces that shape our world. This ‘Larger than Life’ showcase features a group of artists, each contributing a single piece that interprets theme Earth, Wind and Fire.

Sea to Sky Potters’ Guild: Earth, Wind & Fire Showcase
Ceramics
The Sea-to-Sky corridor is home to many artists inspired by the surrounding landscape. Sculpted by these elemental forces this region directly and indirectly impacts our artistic expression. This exhibition showcases Earth, Wind and Fire as muses for many artists spanning many mediums. Sublime and unpredictable, these forces deserve reverence and respect as we pull inspiration from them.
Ceramics in itself is a temperamental medium greatly influenced by these forces. From the technical process of making with clay to the conceptual themes, these artists express their own interpretations of Earth, Wind and Fire.
