New Year, New Lists

Dear CRC Volunteer,

Apparently there is not an official word for someone who is addicted to writing lists. This isn't me obviously (I can stop any time...) but I do have an affinity for it. I write lists in notebooks, lists on the back of used envelopes, lists on napkins and lists in the "notes" feature on my phone. I write lists of to-dos and ideas, goals and dreams, groceries I need and names I need to remember.

January in particular creates a special opportunity for me to write a list for the coming year. Instead of resolutions, I do lists. While life has a way of reminding me that my plans are never guaranteed, it's fun to create a list of things I hope to do (try some viral recipes, celebrate my son's HS graduation) and should do (eat my protein, organize my kitchen cupboards).

This January, I thought I'd create a list for you, our dedicated and amazing volunteer team. Some easy ways you can lean into the work we do, whether you are a weekly volunteer or you haven't volunteered since 2016. I personally have some fun plans in store for the volunteer program this year, and hope you can make some as well!

Warmly,

Sara Rosenbaum, CVA

2 - Track Volunteer Hours

3 - Partner with CRC: Donate an Auction Item

Donate a new auction or raffle item to support CRC’s signature events this year! Gift cards, experiences, vacation stays and artwork help fund programs that provide food, housing support and counseling for neighbors in need. Donation deadline: Tuesday, February 17. To donate an item, please contact Cindy Collins at development@crcncc.org or 760-230-6307.

4 - Contribute to CRC's Social Media Team

We are always in need of content creators to help us share with the community! We are in particular need of photos and content from the Resale Stores! Feel like doing a "GRWM" reel or "Thrift Haul" video? Reach out for more! Or, check out a few ideas here!

5 - Check the Blog

Each month, CRC CEO John Van Cleef writes a blog post, highlighting the work and the values of our organization. This is a great way to learn more about what is going on in the broader CRC world and to hear straight from the heart of our leadership. This month, in honor of MLK's example, John asks that we consider participating in "The Great Kindness Challenge", inviting people to practice simple acts that build a culture of kindness.

6 - Introduce your friends to Group Opportunities

*Pictured: NCL Surf Cities giving back on Sunday, January 25th. Thank you!

Are you part of a group of 5-15 looking for a way to partner in CRC's mission? There are currently Food Pantry and Resale Store group opportunities available on some late afternoons and weekends. Tasks may include deep cleaning, sorting, or stocking items. A clean Food Pantry provides a more dignified shopping experience for our clients. And a clean store means happy customers! To learn more, contact the CRC Volunteer Manager.

7 - Learn More from the CRC Newsletters!

This newsletter primarily highlights the work that our volunteers are doing and provides training and updates that apply to the volunteering experience. The CRC newsletters focus on client stories, CRC in the news, mission updates, and fundraising opportunities. If you would like to receive that newsletter, you can sign up for it here.

You can also check out the most current newsletter, full of great information, below!

8 - Be a Superstar Volunteer

Congratulations to CRC's Volunteers of the Month, Maggie Thompson and Cheri Schwebel!

Maggie and Cheri met in 2019 while each volunteering to support CRC's Development team with mailings and administrative support. They quickly became both fast friends and invaluable members of the CRC volunteer team. This past quarter, they have gone above and beyond, supporting events, fundraising and donor relations. If you have received mailings from CRC in the past 6 years, you may have been able to enjoy their beautiful penmanship. Nominating staff person, Cindy Collins notes, "I appreciate them so much, and the past few months have been a whirlwind. I couldn't do this without them!"

February CRC Holiday Closures: Monday, February 16 (President's Day). FNC and Resale Stores as well as all offices closed.

What's Your Story?
If you have a good story of volunteering, please share with me at volunteer@crcncc.orgI can include those stories in future newsletters as an encouragement to our team.
