Success Story

Nature has a healing touch!

Luke has been a part of the Partners in Learning since infancy. Even as a young child, he exhibited sensory-seeking behaviors indicating a strong need for sensory input. This "sensory-seeking" nature remained a consistent part of his development.

Prior to transitioning to the outdoor classroom (Forest School in our Adventure Forest), Luke faced challenges with self-regulation. A remarkable transformation occurred when he began attending the Forest School. The natural environment provided a rich source of sensory experiences. The diverse textures of the natural world, the sounds of rustling leaves and birdsong, the feel of the earth beneath his feet, and the opportunity for free movement all contributed to his ability to self-regulate more effectively.

This dramatic improvement highlights the profound impact that access to nature can have on children with sensory processing needs. The Forest School provides a supportive and stimulating environment that allows children to meet their sensory needs naturally, fostering self-regulation and enabling them to thrive as a learner. By providing a natural and engaging learning environment, we can empower all children to reach their full potential.

Encouraging Healthy Eating Habits in Children.

New Year's Resolution for the Whole Family!

To help encourage healthy eating habits in children, simply involve them in the process. Let your child help with meal planning, grocery shopping, and cooking. This gives them a sense of ownership and makes them more likely to try new foods.

Partners In Learning incorporates programs to promote healthy eating habits in children through curriculum integration and family involvement:

  • By incorporating nutrition lessons from More Than Mud Pies, into the regular curriculum, children get to have fun making a variety of healthy treats such as muffins and homemade applesauce.
  • Teachers promote interactive activities such as, planting, growing, and harvesting various fruits, veggies, and herbs.
  • By serving family style meals, children learn healthy meal proportions.
  • We partner with various community organizations to provide family workshops and resources helping to empower families to cook healthy low cost meals at home.

Building Connections

The Bears classroom at Novant recently experienced a heartwarming connection with one of their deployed parents. The children learned that one of their classmates' parents was being sent overseas. With hearts full of support, they decided to create a care package filled with tokens of love and appreciation.

The children carefully gathered their favorite snacks, drew colorful pictures, and wrote heartfelt cards. Each item was infused with their innocent affection and gratitude for the parent's service.

They packed the box, decorating it with messages of encouragement and well wishes.

The package arrived just in time for Christmas, a beacon of warmth from home. The deployed parent surprised the class with a FaceTime call, eager to share the moment of opening the care package. As the parent revealed each item, calling each child by name, the classroom erupted in cheers and excitement. The pictures they had drawn, the cards they had written – each was received with heartfelt gratitude.

In that moment, the miles separating them melted away. The children's faces beamed with pride, their hearts overflowing with joy. The deployed parent, though far from home, was reminded of the love and support that awaited their return. It was a beautiful reminder of the connection that binds us, even in the face of distance and adversity.
