The Future is Looking Bright
Meet Shawni Davis, Owner of Luminary Electrical Contractor in Syracuse. Master Unlimited Electrician Davis is currently working on a couple of our new single-family homes HHQ is constructing on Syracuse's Southside running typical residential service and fire alarms. The soon-to-be New York State Certified MWBE, primarily works on commercial projects, but likes to dabble in residential when she can, especially when it means good things for Syracuse families. How did she become one of only two Black women in the region who are both licensed master electricians and own their own business? She decided early on that if she was working so hard for someone else, she could be working just as hard for herself. You can find Luminary Electrical on Facebook or on the web.

Buffalo & Erie County Programs Get Cooking
While we like to give our Buffalo Site Director Paul Pérez a hard time about being surprised his head could get any bigger, the newest Buffalo billboard graced with a very large Paul is certainly having some impact. This week, the Buffalo & Erie County Landlord Property Improvement Fund finally gets a kick off with the Mayor and other community VIPs. The Landlord Fund provides Buffalo area "Mom and Pop" landlords with low interest loans of up to $25,000 to address lead paint hazards and other health and safety needs in their 1-4 units rental properties. Vote for HHQ in Target Circle
We’re participating in the Target Circle program! You can vote for us and help direct Target’s giving to benefit CNY families. There are lots of details, but if you shop at a Target in Elmira, Vestal, Syracuse, Cicero, Liverpool, Fayetteville, Ithaca, Monroe, New Hartford or Watertown, you can direct Community Giving dollars through your Target Circle app to help local families become first-time homeowners and existing homeowners make needed repairs and improvements to their homes. If you've already shopped at Target and have never voted, just visit "Community Giving" on your Target Circle dashboard and vote for Home HeadQuarters (you can vote for the dogs, too, but make sure you're voting for their people, too!). For full program details and restrictions visit Target Circle.
Helping HHQ Remove Health Hazards in the Home
HHQ is proud to once again be selected as a grant recipient from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation in 2022. Founded to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable New Yorkers, this year the foundation awarded more than 500 grants totaling $160 million throughout New York State.

As we did with its 2020 award, HHQ will be using the funding to correct health hazards in homes that we rehab for sale to low-income buyers. The research is clear, health hazards in the home negatively impact health outcomes, often for a lifetime. From lead paint, to radon, to mold, the personal and societal costs of poor-quality housing is overwhelming. This need has become all the more urgent over the past two years as families have spent more time at home than ever before. HHQ has long been committed to ensuring all Central New Yorkers have access to housing that is safe and healthy, and funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation is a critical tool in our efforts. Our sincere thank you to the Foundation for continuing to support our work in Central New York.

Home HeadQuarters is seeking a Housing Counselor as part of his HomeOwnership Center! Check out our Employment page on our website for details on how to apply!

When HHQ took over management of SMNC last year, we quickly discovered that there were no internal financial statements, no completed audits and no tax returns filed since 2018. Without financial reporting, SMNC wasn't able to apply for any funding to support their properties. HHQ's accounting staff spent significant time and resources over the course of five months to successfully develop financial records and complete a three-year financial statement audit. HHQ can now submit funding requests to repair and rehab SMNC properties. The efforts to correct SMNC’s accounting deficiencies were costly and could not have been undertaken without support from the CNY Community Foundation. HHQ also thanks the Allyn Family Foundation, Gifford Foundation, The Dorothy and Marshall M. Reisman Foundation and the John Ben Snow Foundation for their support in helping us improve SMNC properties and its organizational capacity.
photo of a postcard that purports to be from County Deed Records that says the warranty on their home is expiring. It's a scam.
It appears that our energetic scammers are again out in force trying to get one over on new homeowners or existing homeowners who may have financed improvements to their homes. Just like the many car warranty calls you might get on your phone, postcards or other mailings you may receive about your house's warranty expiring are a scam--there is no such thing. If you are the recipient of something like this, promptly throw it in the recycling bin.
