New Bicentennial Publication: Red Sky Morning
|
Red Sky Morning: The Epic True Story of Texas Ranger Company F by Joe Pappalardo. Macmillan Publishers, 2022. 352 pages. | The explosive and bloody true history of Texas Rangers Company F, made up of hard men who risked their lives to bring justice to a lawless frontier. | Between 1886 and 1888, Sergeant James Brooks, of Texas Ranger Company F, was engaged in three fatal gunfights, endured disfiguring bullet wounds, engaged in countless manhunts, was convicted of second-degree murder, and rattled Washington, D.C. with a request for a pardon from the US president.
His story anchors the tale of Joe Pappalardo's Red Sky Morning. Brooks’ men met their match in the Conner family, East Texas master hunters and jailbreakers who were wanted for their part in a bloody family feud.
In Memoriam: Timothy Matthew Hatch
February 23, 1980 -- December 2, 2022
Texas Ranger Timothy Matthew Hatch, age 42, of Rusk, TX passed away on December 2, 2022. Tim was born February 23, 1980 in Corpus Christi, TX to Randy and Sue Hatch. Tim was beloved by his family and will be greatly missed. | Tim was a dedicated law enforcement professional with a career spanning over two decades. His law enforcement journey began at the age of 19 with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Tim would later join the Texas Department of Public Safety in 2007 where he served in the Highway Patrol, Governors Protection Detail, Criminal Investigations Division, and as a Texas Ranger beginning June 2021.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Brian Downs, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Ranger Company “B” for their support during a difficult time.
The TRHFM raised admission rates for the first time in over 5 years. As the construction of I-35 nears completion, the Museum admission was increased to align with the other museum attractions in Waco and cover inflation. Our thanks to the City’s Facilities Department for installing the new signage.
Compassion Waco Donation Drive
|
The Texas Ranger Museum was honored to be a collection station for Compassion Waco holiday donation drive. We filled two big boxes with items for the home and toys for the children. The first Compassion drive at TRHFM began in 2015 and has been a successful partnership ever since. Compassion Waco provides transitional housing and support for homeless families located in Waco. During their six-month residency, the residents learn financial skills, receive counseling, and must hold a job during the time. The holiday donation drive allows for Compassion Waco to provide a “store” for the residents to “shop” for gifts – both parents and children alike. We are thankful to the community for their gifts and support of our partnership.
