Blessings for 2016 - A Year for Giving

A message from the Medical Director of Marotta Plastic Surgery Specialists,
Dr. James Marotta
Happy New Year to you and your families!  We hope you had a beautiful holiday season and that your 2016 has been off to a great start.

We have a lot to be grateful for and all of us here at Marotta Plastic Surgery  Specialists try to make it part of our daily mission to seek to do good in our community and for others. We've always enjoyed participating in community activities, fundraisers and local charitable events, including our continued support of the Long Island Against Domestic Violence.  In October, our staff walked in  the Making Strides for Cancer Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach in honor of our family and friends with breast cancer.

In November, we collected canned goods and other non-perishable items for the
Smithtown food pantry to help feed local families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday.  And in December, we helped raise $1,000 with a basket raffle of Marotta Treatments and Products for the new Stony Brook Children's Hospital that is being constructed to better serve our community.

Our staff has always been committed to giving back and at our 2016 Annual Planning Meeting, we decided to formally adopt a charitable cause each month for 2016.  We each have causes near and dear to our heart and from that list of causes, we will be selecting our monthly charity.  Some may be staff picks and others may be brought to our attention by our patients and their families.  We believe can make a difference in this world, even with small acts of kindness.  Sometimes the little things can make the biggest impact.

Over the next year, as we count our blessings, we extend ours to you and those around you as well and invite you to participate in our charitable works for 2016.  Whether by donating an item, joining us for an event, or simply liking or sharing our posts on our Facebook page, however you feel comfortable, we welcome you to be part of the good works we do.

This January we have selected The New York Bully Crew as our charitable cause. The New York Bully Crew is a 501c3 not-for-profit rescue organization based on Long Island with nationwide outreach. They specialize in rescuing Pitbulls, however no animal in dire need of rescue is turned away. As a facial plastic surgeon, I have seen, and stitched, many facial injuries due to dog bites.  It is never a good situation for either the person injured or the animal.

Unfortunately, many breeds, especially pitbulls, are put in horrible situations and are bred for inhumane uses.  I hope to never have to see another dog bite injury in my career and that's why I support organizations like the NY Bully Crew that work to put an end to animal cruelty and also help find loving homes for dogs who, without their intervention, might otherwise be abused.  This January we will be collecting items that are needed by the NY Bully Crew for their rescue and adoption center.  Items in need include:
Fleece blankets, Swiffer Wet Jet Pads, Paper towels, Harness Lead Harnesses, dog jackets/sweaters NuPro supplement & Apple Cider Vinegar, peanut butter, Mendota Slip Lead Leashes, Kongs, Nyla bones, Odoban Floor Cleaner, Sponge Mop refills etc.  Click here for a full list of items on their wish list.   Please feel free to contact the office if you have any questions.

We know a lot of our patients are dog lovers, like many of us at the office are.  We invite you to post a picture of you and your dog (or just your dog if you are camera shy) on our Facebook page.   We look forward to seeing your furry friends and will share our beloved pets on there as well!  Thank you and be well.

Kindest regards,
James C. Marotta, MD FACS
