Construction Updates

Faith Build has Begun!

With our groundbreaking ceremony on January 3, we officially began our Faith Build project on Wesley Street in Ashland! Future homeowner Krystal and her 10-year-old daughter Nyla are Hanover locals. Krystal says that being a single mom has been hard. It was a struggle to afford childcare while working full-time and attending classes at night. Her favorite quote is “God may not come when you want Him, but He is always on time.” With that positive mentality, she believes, as does Habitat, that God led her to Habitat to be the next Faith Build homeowner. Learn more about Krystal, see pictures from the groundbreaking, and learn about Faith build here.

Habitat is still looking for area congregations to put their faith into action by getting involved in this local mission work. Habitat encourages faith-based organizations to support Habitat by either serving, praying, and/or giving. Consider how you can get involved!

Dewey Street Update

Trusses have been repaired, the old unusable bathroom has been removed, and the siding has been fixed! Thanks to our midweek crew, made up of a dozen or so regular volunteers, we have made great headway on this renovation project.

Over the next few weeks, there are volunteer needs for this project. If you want to help with this house, please visit our volunteer portal and sign up.

We still need one housewarming gift basket for Ivy. If you'd like to create one, please contact Amanda Gunter or sign up online.

Doswell Update

We are almost finished with the new home in Doswell! There has been a great turnout of volunteers to help work on this house. We anticipate the project to be completed very soon, so stay tuned for details on Keedra's home dedication!

W. River Rd (King William)

Our first lot in King William is on W. River Road. We have begun the process of clearing the lot, in hopes of beginning construction sometime in the summer.

To get ready to volunteer in King William, head to our volunteer portal and create a profile. As part of the profile, “fan” construction. If you do this, it should notify you when we post new construction opportunities. You can also email Amanda Gunter with questions.

Community Input

ThriveVA wants to hear from the people they serve. Their 2023 Community Needs Survey helps identify gaps in services and identifies new resources for the community. It supports their program development, evaluation, and strategic planning. Please consider completing their online survey!

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is seeking your input as they develop a Community Outreach and Engagement Plan (COEP) to ensure that everyone can participate as they build Flood Resilience that works for all Virginians. DCR seeks input to the COEP through a public comment forum on the Virginia Town Hall Website. The public comment period will close on January 31, 2023.
