Dear Ones,
There is something helpful about being back in the routine of the day to day, so sending this regularly scheduled email is doing wonders for my nervous system. I hope it helps yours a bit too.
It's been a nervous time.
As many know, we hosted a brief, impromptu prayer service with our bishop this past Saturday in light of the U.S. having invaded Venezuela. You can view it HERE. There are a variety of mixed emotions about this action, some of which has been articulated by the new Episcopal Bishop of Los Angeles, Antonio Gallardo, on a Facebook post you can read HERE.
Then the news out of my beloved homeland, Minnesota, that a young mother was shot by an ICE agent. We remember Renee Good, and all those who have been killed, injured, arrested for peacefully protesting, and who have experienced violence in this time around these incidents.
It is hard to know how to respond and what our best choice is - which is an individual discernment for each of us. To offer you some options, I have two opportunities: one is online, one in person.
On Monday, January 12, at 7pm, there is a Interfaith Nonviolent Civil Resistance training hosted by the National Interfaith Alliance. Click here to register.
Second, in partnership with Corazón of Arizona, Trinity is offering a brief training on Sunday, January 18 at 11am to learn about how we can respond to an increased DHS/ICE presence in Phoenix which is reportedly coming soon. Corazón's expertise is in helping develop allies for those in need of support by being organized, informed, and educated about the viewpoints, options, and opportunities to love and serve one another. If you've been wondering "how can I help in this troubled time?" this is a great starting point for you. The session will help you start your discernment about how you can make a difference whether individually or collectively. There's always a spectrum of responses possible from praying alone at home to marching in the streets with others, along with a multitude of ways to engage in-between. Come and explore it together next Sunday.
This is all hard stuff, friends. If it makes you flinch a little to think about, trust me that you're not alone in that. And we need to be as informed and prepared as possible to live out our Christian values in real time. I hope you will find the ways you wish to learn and engage in love and support of your neighbors. It takes all of us together, friends.

Hay algo reconfortante en volver a la rutina diaria, por lo que enviar este correo electrónico periódico está haciendo maravillas por mi sistema nervioso. Espero que también os ayude un poco a vosotros.
Ha sido un momento de nerviosismo.
Como muchos saben, el sábado pasado celebramos un breve servicio de oración improvisado con nuestro obispo a raíz de la invasión de Venezuela por parte de Estados Unidos. Pueden verlo AQUÍ. Hay una variedad de emociones encontradas sobre esta acción, algunas de las cuales han sido expresadas por el nuevo obispo episcopal de Los Ángeles, Antonio Gallardo, en una publicación de Facebook que pueden leer AQUÍ.
Luego, la noticia de mi querida tierra natal, Minnesota, de que una joven madre fue asesinada a tiros por un agente del ICE. Recordamos a Renee Good y a todos aquellos que han sido asesinados, heridos, arrestados por protestar pacíficamente y que han sufrido violencia en este tiempo en torno a estos incidentes.
Es difícil saber cómo responder y cuál es nuestra mejor opción, lo cual es una decisión individual que cada uno debe tomar. Para ofrecerles algunas opciones, tengo dos oportunidades: una en línea y otra en persona.

Siempre hay un abanico de respuestas posibles, desde rezar solo en casa hasta manifestarse en las calles con otros, junto con una multitud de formas de participar entre medias. Todo esto es muy difícil, amigos. Si pensar en ello os hace sentir un poco incómodos, creedme, no sois los únicos. Necesitamos estar lo más informados y preparados posible para vivir nuestros valores cristianos en tiempo real. Espero que encontréis la forma de aprender y comprometeros con el amor y el apoyo a vuestros vecinos. Es necesario que todos nos unamos, amigos.

Garfield Principal at Trinity This Sunday!
One of Trinity’s most important ministries is our partnership with Garfield School. We have collected backpacks filled with supplies for students and recognized teachers and staff during Teacher Appreciation Week—and we are excited to continue expanding our work in meaningful ways.

Taking Care of our Church Home

WE are the church! Our home, Trinity Cathedral, needs our loving attention. So let’s help freshen up our church home for that new year! There are tasks big and small, active and sedentary, something for everyone. Instead of a potluck, lunch will be provided so we can begin our tasks by 12:30. Feel free to bring your own lunch if you have a special dietary requirement. Roll up your sleeves and come dressed to clean or sort! We pray for peace,
for goodwill among nations, and for the well-being of all people. We pray for our President and for the Congress, the Cabinet, and the Supreme Court. We pray for justice and peace, particularly in Venezuela, Gaza, Israel, and in Ukraine & Russia, in Sudan and in the Congo.
We ask your prayers for the poor,
the sick, the hungry, the oppressed, and those in prison, particularly those who are being removed from this country without due process and those being removed in spite of being in legal immigration processes. We pray for those who have lost federal service jobs, those who are losing federal loans for education due to reclassification of their intended professions, and all those who are out of work as they head into the holiday season.
We commend to your mercy all who have died, that your will for them may be fulfilled; and we pray that we may share with all your saints in your eternal kingdom.
We pray for: Jill, Maisie, Andrew, Patricia, and the de la Cruz family.
We give thanks for those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this week.

por la buena voluntad de naciones, y para el bienestar de todos pueblos. Rezamos por nuestro Presidente y por el Congreso, el Gabinete y el Tribunal Supremo. Rezamos por la justicia y la paz, especialmente en Venezuela, Gaza, Iran, y Ucrania y Rusia, en Sudán y en el Congo.
Pedimos tus oraciones para los con recursos limitados,
los enfermos, los hambrientos, los oprimidos y los encarcelados, en particular aquellos que están siendo expulsados de este país sin el debido proceso y aquellos que están siendo expulsados a pesar de estar en procesos de inmigración legales. Oramos por aquellos que han perdido sus empleos en el servicio federal, aquellos que están perdiendo sus préstamos federales para la educación debido a la reclasificación de sus profesiones previstas, y todos aquellos que están sin trabajo al acercarse la temporada navideña.
Encomendamos a tu misericordia todos que han muerto, que tu desea para ellos estará completado; y oremos que todos nosotros compartimos con todos los santos en tu reino eterno.
