New York Latino Redistricting Roundtable
Monday, September 13, 2021, 6:00-7:30 pm
Redistricting is one of the most critical uses of 2020 Census data. Congressional and New York State legislative district lines drawn during the current redistricting cycle impacts the next 10 years and determines the representation and allocation of resources to our communities. LatinoJustice is working to ensure that new districts represent the strength of Latinos in New York, ensure that our community’s concerns are addressed, and allow our communities to elect representatives of their choice.

You can play a critical role to facilitate and empower Latino advocacy on behalf of fair and equitable district maps in New York. LatinoJustice, a non-partisan non-profit civil rights legal defense fund is bringing together a coalition of Latinx community-serving organizations and advocates to coordinate advocacy strategy during the current redistricting process in order to empower Latinos’ active participation in the Unity Mapping Project.

At this meeting, we will walk through the redistricting process, present initial findings on Latino growth in our state and provide tools for engaging in the redistricting process. Future gatherings can focus on media strategy, creating maps, crafting testimony and can address other areas the group identifies.
