Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez, U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat, NYS Senator Marisol Alcantara, NYS Assemblywoman Carmen De La Rosa, Community Leaders, family and friends - among others - to unveil "Flight 587 Way" with a street co-naming ceremony in honor to the memory of the 265 victims of this tragic accident.
On the Morning of November 12, 2001, American Airlines Flight 587 bound to the Dominican Republic crashed into the water near JFK International Airport. All 265 victims that included 251 passengers, 9 crew members, and 5 people on the ground died in this terrible tragedy which took the lives of mostly Dominicans and Dominican-Americans. This is the second deadliest plane crash in the United States aviation history, and to many in the Dominican community is very important to remember this fateful plane crash.
