Starting a New Raised Bed Garden
*Registration required*

Tuesday, February 23 | 7 PM | Virtual
Are you wondering if a raised bed garden is the right choice for you? Join NOFA/Mass for an event from their Resilient Garden Series.

Raised beds/containers are a boon to anyone who can’t (or won’t) get down on the ground and can be placed anywhere, regardless of soil quality (or no soil at all) below the bed. However, a lot of raised beds don’t thrive and/or produce after their first year. There are “tricks” and specific information that you can use to make your raised beds and containers successfully produce great food wherever you have enough sunlight.

The presenter ML Altobelli, an experienced gardener, landscaper, and educator, is the owner of M.L’s Greenery in Motion and Woody End Farm, has 38 years of experience working in gardens of all kinds, including many, many raised beds.

Public Forum: Town of Barnstable Proposed Sewer Assessment Ordinance

Thursday, February 25 | 10 AM, 2 PM, and 7 PM | Virtual
Thursday, March 25 | 10 AM, 2 PM, and 7 PM | Virtual
The health of Barnstable’s coastal waters that is so vital to the Town’s quality of life and local economy is at risk. The primary source of the problem is nitrogen pollution from septic systems.

Building on more than a decade of scientific study and engineering design, the Town has put forward a Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP) to protect coastal, inland, and drinking water resources. The Town’s plan calls for sewers and other measures to be implemented over 30 years, at a total cost of $1.4 billion. The Town has identified existing revenues to cover more than half of this cost. A Sewer Assessment Ordinance is being proposed to finance a portion of the remaining cost.

A proposal for a Sewer Assessment Ordinance to finance a portion of the cost to construct the sewer expansion will be presented for community discussion at a series of virtual public forums.

Mark Ells, Barnstable Town Manager, will present the proposed sewer assessment ordinance, along with Daniel Santos (Director, Department of Public Works) and Mark Milne (Finance Director).

How to attend: To participate via computer use the following link for all six meetings: https://zoom.us/j/92047771927 using Webinar ID: 920 4777 1927.
