How did the Mother's Garden begin and why is it called a Mother's Garden?
GLC had a parish nurse for a period of time in the early 2000s. She supported Elizabeth Ministries, a ministry that served new moms and women who had suffered the loss of pregnancies.
A group of GLC members began to imagine a visible sign of hope and came up with the idea of a garden in front of the church where people could rest and be renewed.
The original plan for the garden had plants with specific meanings. While most of those plants are no longer there, the tending of many caring women over the years has helped the garden continue to proclaim new life to passersby! You'll notice the engraved bricks to mark celebrations and losses and to make proclamations of God's goodness.
A walk in the garden is a walk through a life of faith!
