What’s happening at the library

We hope you’re well. While the library building remains partially closed to help do our part in mitigating the spread of COVID-19, we’re still working to provide as much access as possible to materials and services. As we prepare for the next phase of operations, it’s our hope that library services will be closer to normal soon. We can’t thank you enough for your ongoing support. OPL library users truly are the best.

Highlighted Services

Browse the library’s new Fall Events Calendar for online programming, contests and resources.  Curbside pickup of materials by appointment. Book drops are open at Evergreen and Mount Vernon Street. Schedule an appointment to use a computer, notarize a document or use the business center for copying and faxing. Instantly download books, audiobooks, movies and more with a library card. Librarian Maggie offers reading suggestions on Facebook Live every Wednesday at 5 p.m. Book Bundles are available for children. Call the Children’s Department to request a fresh selection of materials for curbside pickup. Tween and Teen Book Club offer free books for kids to keep, and a chance for discussion via Zoom. Receive a new library card or renew your card.

Congratulations Sandy, Ruth and Matt!

In August, the City of Oshkosh recognized three library employees for their excellent work. Community Engagement Librarian Sandy Toland received the Outstanding Service Award for exceptional service to the organization and to the city’s mission, vision and strategic goals. Assistant Director for Public Services Ruth Percey and Circulation Operations Manager Matt Schrottky were recognized with the S.T.A.R. (Staff Appreciation and Recognition) Award for launching curbside service. Ruth, Matt and their individual staff have worked tirelessly to serve library patrons in new ways during the library’s temporary closure.

An online photography contest & exhibit Open to Oshkosh area residents beginning Mon., Sept. 14 Ages 13 and older Entries accepted until Fri., Oct. 16 Prizes awarded You’re invited to submit original photos that reflect your interpretation of shelter. In the wake of the COVID-19 health crisis, shelter conjures up images of both physical structures and sacred places of emotional refuge. You can take shelter at home, in nature, in books, in your personal beliefs, or in the company of a loved one. Use your camera and creativity to tell the story of daily life during a global pandemic.

Grades 6 – 12 | Oct. 1 – 23 Gather ‘round the virtual campfire and get ready to tell your scariest story in just two sentences. Teens who want help writing their terrifying tales are invited to join writing workshops via Zoom on Oct. 7 and Oct. 19.
