Burgess launches statewide campaign for Maine Adult Day Services

In September, Burgess launched the state’s first-ever campaign promoting Adult Day Services for the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Office of Aging Disability Services. The campaign is aimed primarily at caregivers responsible for the daily care of older adults needing some level of support. It promotes the care, kinship and fun, engaging activities offered by Adult Day Centers throughout the state.

In addition to providing a safe “home away from home” for seniors, Adult Day Services provide a reliable, much-needed break for overburdened caregivers.

The two 30-second television spots and four 15-second online video ads depict challenges caregivers face, as well as the fun, lively and friendly atmosphere found at Adult Day Centers throughout Maine. Each directs or links viewers to a web page on the Maine.gov website where they can find details on center locations, programming and affordability. The initial campaign runs through the end of January 2025. View the spots.

Cancer care “on your terms”

A new Burgess campaign for New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) highlights the practice’s high touch approach in the decidedly high-tech field of medical oncology. The campaign centers around the story of Amber-Jean Nickel. The mom of five active children and the CEO of a specialty food manufacturer at the time of her diagnosis during the height of the pandemic, Amber-Jean’s family and employees depended on her.

Whereas many cancer patients choose to schedule their lives around their treatments, Amber-Jean did not want her treatment schedule to get in the way of being there for her children and employees.

The campaign, which included TV, radio, and social media, as well as print and digital advertising, focuses on how NECS helped her beat cancer on her terms — with treatments scheduled around her extremely busy work and family life. It launched October 1st.

High-risk cancer genetics campaign yields local and international awards

Seth Blanchard (at right), Director of Marketing & Communications for New England Cancer Specialists (NECS), along with Burgess Creative Director Charlie Clement, show off the International Communicator Award the agency won for promoting the client’s new High-Risk Genetic Cancer Program. The campaign produced an almost ten-fold increase in page views on key NECS website conversion pages.

A Burgess-created campaign promoting a new high-risk cancer genetics program for New England Cancer Specialists has recently been recognized with three separate awards. Locally, the Maine Public Relations Council, named the campaign a Bronze winner at a September 10th Golden Arrow Awards Ceremony and Networking event held at the University of New England in Portland.

The campaign also won a Bronze Award at the International Summit Creative Awards in the Integrated Consumer Campaign category. The mission of the international competition is to recognize, celebrate, and promote exceptional creativity and innovation across diverse global media platforms.

Finally, the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts honored the campaign with an Excellence statue in the International Communicator Awards.

Women to Watch

Family, friends and Burgess staff gathered at Halo on The Point in Portland September 10th for the Mainebiz 15th Annual Women To Watch awards, where our own Meredith Strang Burgess was one of this year’s six honorees.

Meredith was honored not only for 38 years at the helm of Burgess Advertising, but also for her six years of service to Maine in the State Legislature, as well as for helping raise awareness and money for the Maine Cancer Foundation. She has long been the face of two of the state’s premier cancer-oriented fundraising events: The Tri For A Cure, a women’s swim, bike and run event now in its 17th year, and the Sugarloaf Charity Summit, now in its 25th year.

“As a Maine native, giving back to our communities is just what we do. 2025 marks the 25th year since being diagnosed with breast cancer, so supporting Maine’s cancer community is very important to me,” said Meredith.

Meredith also says helping the local community extends to the work of the agency, adding, “Fall is great time to plan your marketing strategy for 2025.”

If you think your end of year planning could benefit from professional guidance on focus, strategy and tactics, call (207) 775-5227 or email Meredith directly at Meredith@BurgessAdv.com
