Yenta Mash (1922-2013) was a prizewinning giant of Yiddish literature. Her work is keenly relevant to our current moment, when displaced people seek refuge across the globe. 

Ellen Cassedy is the translator, from Yiddish into English, of  On the Landing: Stories by Yenta Mash  (DeKalb, IL: Northern Illinois University Press, 2018). She is the translator, with Yermiyahu Ahron Taub, of  “Oedipus in Brooklyn” and Other Stories by Blume Lempel  (Simsbury, CT: Mandel Vilar Press and Dryad Press, 2016), for which she and Taub were awarded the 2018 Modern Language Association’s Fenia and Yaakov Leviant Memorial Prize.  In 2015, she was a translation fellow at the Yiddish Book Center. 
Cassedy is the author of  We Are Here: Memories of the Lithuanian Holocaust  (2012), which won five literary awards. 
Her articles about Yiddish literature, translation, Holocaust studies, and Jewish culture have appeared in numerous journals.
