New event space in town!

Christie and Tony Halbe, owners of Exuberance Chiropractic, have opened a brand new event space in their building. The new F3 Lounge and event Center is a great neutral canvas that you can decorate for any themed party you are hosting. You can host private events for around 100 people and the space comes with the bar, a prep kitchen, lunge area, multiple TVs and a projector, a space for outdoor food trucks, the list goes on. The website will be up and running soon, but until then, you can reach out to them at 952-435-3374 or f3eventcenter@gmail.com.

Part 2 coming soon!

We had such engaging conversations yesterday about ESST that we ran out of time for some of the other new laws, so we are working on a part 2 to cover the rest! Watch for the 2nd date shortly. Thank you to Brittany King-Asamoa for the great content, and to Hearth & Home Technologies for hosting!

The earned sick and safe time (ESST) law was recently updated to clarify who qualifies for ESST, the rate at which ESST must be paid, ESST application to other paid time off and more. Find an overview of some of the changes here.

What ESST record keeping responsibilities do employers have?

At the end of each pay period employers must provide employees with:

  1. the total number of ESST hours available for the employee to use; and
  2. the total number of ESST hours the employee used during that pay period.

Employers can choose how to provide this information, such as on an earnings statement or through an electronic system, including their company's online portal, timekeeping software or other accessible systems. If the information is provided electronically, employers must ensure that employees have access to a computer during their regular working hours to review and print their sick and safe time details.

Participate in the Rule Making Process Paid Leave

The Minnesota Legislature passed Paid Leave into law in 2023 and charged the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) with managing the Paid Leave program. Additionally, the Legislature delegated authority to DEED to make rules necessary to carry out the Paid Leave program.

Rulemaking in Minnesota follows procedures outlined in the Minnesota Administrative Procedure Act in Minn. Stat. Chap.14.

The Paid Leave division is in the process of drafting the rules. Draft rules will be posted on this website as they become available. Draft rules are for discussion and feedback purposes only and are not officially adopted or proposed rules.

The draft rules are currently expected to fall into these categories: Opting In, Private Plans, Seasonal Hospitality Employment, Health Care Provider Certification, Safety Leave, Claims Administration, Role of the Employer, Small Employers, Covered Employment, and Job Protections.

How to Participate in the Rulemaking Process

The Paid Leave division is gathering public input and feedback on draft rules.

Comment through the Office of Administrative Hearings

The public can comment directly through the Office of Administrative Hearings website: Office of Administrative Hearings Comments On Rules (granicusideas.com). Comments received are public and will be available for review at the OAH Rulemaking eComments website.
