Martin Luther King Jr.
College Students Give Back
College students from three local colleges participated in volunteer projects on January 21 as a way to honor Martin Luther King's legacy. Emmaus students came together at the United Way office to make tie-blankets that were distributed to a local shelter. Clarke students spent their day volunteering to clean up and organize The Rescue Mission and Loras students spent their day volunteering at Almost Home.

How Far Have We Come?
On the evening of January 21st, The Fountain of Youth, Multicultural Family Center, Wartburg Seminary, Sustainable Dubuque and United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States came together to host the How Far Have We Come event. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy was celebrated with inspiring performances, cultural integration and networking opportunities. The free, family-friendly event was held at the Multicultural Family Center and included light food and activities for the children who attended. This event will occur annually to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy.
Hockey For All
What a night with the Dubuque Fighting Saints! Friday February 22nd, the Fighting Saints played against the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders in a thrilling game. United Way took over the Red Zone in honor of John Deere Dubuque Works and the Fighting Saints partnering up for the month of February. This promotion was a culmination of a month long celebration of diversity and inclusion. During the month, players of the Fighting Saints volunteered each week at different funded partners to do their part in giving back. Players of the team served Audubon Elementary School, Dubuque Boys and Girls Club and the Workshop in Galena. The month long event was an opportunity to connect the team atmosphere to the culture of inclusion and diversity in our community.

United Way was privileged to be the recipient of the 50/50 raffle during the game. A big thank you to John Deere Dubuque Works, Dubuque Fighting Saints and everyone who attended the game to promote our cause. All money raised at the game helped us impact LOCAL lives through United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States!
Bellevue Elementary 5th Grade Project
For the second year, Bellevue Elementary 5th grade students wanted to give back to their community. They reached out with a special project in mind, and with the help of Hodge, Run 4 The Troops, United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States and Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) the students got the opportunity to create 50 bags filled with necessity items (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, body wash, etc.). Law enforcement, the local pantry and local Veteran services were provided with the bags the students made so they can be given to people in need in Jackson county. Along with necessity items, each student wrote a note of encouragement for each bag.

Way to go Bellevue 5th Grade Students and thank you for giving back to the community!
