We thought we would feature and honor our oldest client Lois Rosas.
Lois has been traveling around the sun for 95 years. She is one of the most flexible Thai massage clients I have… which can be a challenge but I just love twisting her up like a pretzel. I can tell she takes pride in being able to move up and down so freely. She works at her mobility and knows she has to keep moving to keep her body strong and flexible.
For the last 6 years she has lead an exercise class every morning that involves a lot of chair and standing stretching.
Through our many hours in session she has shared a few things and gave me permission to pass the information on. These are a few of the things I have come to admire about her and her beautiful spirit.
She grew up in the Oregon woods in a 12 by 12 foot cabin built by her father surrounded by 80 acres of woods. They had one kerosene lamp between the whole family. They would heat water to bath on Saturdays. They had an outhouse no bathroom.
Lois would walk as many as 6 miles a day, sometimes in complete darkness. She had to walk 1/2 mile for water, 6 miles for school...
She feels the walking built up her amazing endurance she still exudes today. She also doesn't take things for granted. She is a hard worker and nothing but kind to those around her.
Lois is very involved in helping her community. She has always been sewing, crocheting and knitting. Years ago she sewed costumes for the Bakersfield community theatre and Bakersfield Light Opera Theatre as well as for others people along the way.
Currently all the knitting and crocheting projects she does are sold around Christmas to help raise money for other seniors in need. If she isn't sewing or crocheting she is brightening people days with her smile and wit…
Some words of wisdom she shared with me were, “Every day you just have to keep moving” and that “You should always stop and smell the roses!”
