Space: A Journey to Our Future | Opens Sept. 26, 2021
Our newest exhibit, SPACE: A Journey to Our Future, presented by PNC Bank and supported by General Motors, will take you out of this world! Visitors of all ages will immerse themselves in the dawn of humankind’s earliest visions of space to the heroic achievements of the past, the unfolding discoveries of today, and the explorers who are shaping our future destiny in the universe.

SPACE: A Journey to Our Future | Exclusive Members-Only Preview
Saturday, Sept. 25 | 10:00am - 5:00pm

Institute of Science members will have a chance to be the first to experience our newest exhibit, SPACE: A Journey to Our Future. In addition to early access, guests will have the opportunity to: 
  • See a real piece of the Moon
  • View our new astronomy-themed show in the Acheson Planetarium (space is limited, and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis) 
  • Enjoy a special presentation, “Life in the Universe,” with Dr. Nicolle Zellner, Professor of Physics at Albion College, in the auditorium at 3:00pm (seating is limited; pre-registration required)
Women Rock Science | Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021
We invite you to join us for our virtual Women Rock Science gala on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 7:00pm. Together, we’ll celebrate women in STEAM and ignite curiosity in children. Proceeds from this women-led fundraising event help bring more STEAM programming, delivered by Cranbrook Institute of Science, to Pre-K-12 students in underserved communities throughout Michigan.

Greater Detroit Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show | Oct. 8-10, 2021
The Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show is back Oct. 8-10 at Macomb Community College, and we are excited to partner with the Michigan Mineralogical Society again for the 76th annual event! 
This year’s show will feature: 
  • 60+ vendors with jewelry, gems, crystals, minerals, and fossils 
  • The first 250 attendees each day will receive a FREE quartz crystal 
  • Fluorescent mineral booth 
  • FREE world-class lectures 
  • Live geode cracking 
  • Yooperlites 
  • And so much more!

Make sure you check out the full Moon! This full Moon is also commonly known as the Corn Moon or Harvest Moon. 

September 22
September Equinox. The Sun will shine directly on the equator and there will be nearly equal amounts of day and night throughout the world. This is also the first day of fall (autumnal equinox) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of spring (vernal equinox) in the Southern Hemisphere.
