Say Hello to Our 2017 Workforce Trainees!
Left to Right: Trainer Tom Reinfranck, Joe Norman, Tyrone Gibbs, Taron Burton, Yeshua Jones, and Kurtis Williams
Thanks to your generous support, we're kicking off the year with a great mix of new and returning trainees! The projects are already lining up, and while we're off to a great start, we can't wait to put this crew to work on some of our biggest, most challenging projects yet.
You can learn more about our jobs training program
here, and if you'd like to show your support for our trainees, you can do so easily by contributing

Ideas for hands-on classes? Lay them on us!
We have a workshop full of tools and are determined to teach you some useful hands-on skills. Because we believe in using what we've already got vs. contributing to the waste stream, all classes will use reclaimed wood
and
other salvaged materials.
Submit your ideas to:
carla@evanstonrebuildingwarehouse.org
We haven't determined a start date for classes yet, but this is one of
many great things
we're gearing up for in 2017!

Someone You Should Know
Meet Leslie Weyhrich, our new Director of Development! Leslie had already been a customer at the warehouse when she heard we were looking to fill a new position through a group of Evanston development professionals. Lucky for us, she has a
Masters degree in nonprofit management and put herself through grad school selling newspaper ads--this combined love of sales and a desire to work with nonprofits gave rise to the development ninja that is Leslie Weyhrich.
After finishing school, Leslie moved to Chicago and worked at Roosevelt University in their Annual Giving department. She then moved to Evanston, where she worked for Rotary International and Evanston Hospital, then moved to Wilmette and worked on fundraising for the Women's Club of Evanston and on political campaigns. A few years ago, she established her own company, The Kindness of Strangers Group, Inc. (KOS Group, Inc.) which is "raising money for worthy KOSes." As a development consultant, Leslie has also worked with Curt's Cafe and the Center for Independent Futures.
When she's not fundraising and saving the world, Leslie is working hard to carve out time with her family--whether it's traveling with them, skiing, fishing, hiking, or just getting everyone around the dinner table. Her hobbies right now are "her kids and their college searches, volunteering in the community, and dabbling in local politics." She believes strongly in leading by example and judges her success based on how her kids are doing. Currently, one is going into environmental engineering, one wants to be a kindergarten teacher, and one is doing comedy at Second City. Clearly her do-goodery has rubbed off, as has her sense of humor...an especially valuable tool for someone who lives in a 1907 house that no doubt has given her some, er, interesting challenges. Of course, one must also have a sense of humor to work at the ERW!
We're so thrilled to have such a valuable new member of our growing team. Thanks for all you do, Leslie!

We Still Need Your Help
While we work our tails off at the warehouse, collecting, organizing, and reselling quality materials, our sales revenues only cover our overhead and basic staff salaries. We still need YOUR help to keep our Workforce trainees out on the job with tools, trainers, and tutors, learning the hard and soft skills needed to secure and hold onto meaningful employment. We need to raise about $24,000 per trainee - the more money raised, the more trainees we can bring into the fold!

Store Policy Update
As we continue to grow, we have to tweak a few of our current rules to ensure items
move out of the warehouse more easily. We thank you all for your business
and for
respecting these changes.
1)
We will keep merchandise on hold for 24 hours.
This is a shift from our previous 3-day hold option.
2)
Storage fees will apply to sold items after 24 hours.
We can no longer store your paid-for items in our space for an extended period of time. Fees will be based on length of time and size of item(s). After two weeks, you will be credited and the item will be resold.
3)
Store credits are good for six months.
Thanks! -The Management
