Below are the latest updates from THCC, sign-on opportunities, upcoming events related to health care advocacy, and news highlights of interest.
THCC Updates
Tennessee Health Care Campaign staff and volunteers have been working hard to promote access to affordable health care for all Tennesseans.

In the month of June we:
  • Hosted forums to educate Tennesseans on the value of Medicaid expansion in Blount and Knox Counties.
  • Spoke with over 500 people at the Knox Pride event to support LGBT Pride Month.
  • Visited Oneida, TN to learn about the impact of rural hospital closures.
  • Hosted a work group meeting for community based organizations advocating for additional work requirement exemptions for Medicaid beneficiaries
  • Enrolled 223 people in health care and answered nearly 400 calls on our consumer assistance hotline.

  • Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) and Well Being Trust have launched a new web-based blueprint designed to help communities deal with the drug, alcohol and suicide crises: Pain in the Nation – Path to Resilience. The website aims to help policy-makers and community leaders access critical data and prevention-oriented program and policies.

Events and Webinars
  • Tennessee Justice Center is hosting a webinar on Balance Billing to advise advocates who assist consumers having difficulty navigating the health care billing system. Webinar July 11th, 11am – 12pm. Register here.

  • Tennessee Health Care Campaign is hosting TennCare Advocates meetings in Knoxville July 23rd and Memphis July 31st to prepare nonprofits who work with Medicaid populations for submitting comments to the Division of TennCare regarding work requirement waiver. Email Jacy Warrell for details.

  • Tennessee’s Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse is hosting a Northeast Tennessee Regional Maternal Health Forum, in Elizabethton, TN, August 3, 2018. Registration here.

  • Tennessee Health Care Campaign is hosting our Annual Health Advocacy Conference titled: “Changing the Course for Health in Tennessee: New Strategies for access to affordable health care for ALL Tennesseans.” Sponsorship deadline for inclusion in program is August 31st.   • Systems for Action National Program Office is hosting a webinar titled: Rural-Urban Differences in Delivery Systems for Population Health Activities, Wednesday, September 19th, 11:00am – 12pm Central. Registration link.

  • Tennessee Association of Alcohol, Drug, and Other Addiction Services (TAADAS) is hosting a Nashville Addiction Summit titled Facing Addiction: Finding Common Ground on September 25th, 2018. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. Registration link.
Action Items and Input Opportunities
  • JULY - Join Tennessee Disability Coalition's REV UP Campaign aimed to increase the political power of the disability community while also engaging candidates and the media on disability issues. Email Bianca Novo for details.

  • Due July 9th - In the wake of a new ACA repeal plan to urge Congress to once again take up unpopular efforts to repeal the ACA and restructure the Medicaid program, Families USA invites national and state-based organizations to sign this letter urging Congress to reject renewed efforts to repeal key expansions of coverage and consumer protections under the ACA.

  • Due July 15th - TennCare is seeking public comment as part of its approved Statewide Transition Plan for coming into compliance with the Home and Community-Based Services Settings Rule. For more information: TennCare link.
