Kent School District January 2022
The Renewal EP&O Levy Vote is just one month away. Levy's help fund important learning initiatives for our students. Have questions about what this levy funds? We got you covered in our Levy Community Conversations! Three Community Conversations are happening this month! Each session will be held virtually via Zoom.
January is School Board Recognition Month
January is School Board Recognition Month! Thank you to our school board members, who continue to represent and care for our students, staff, and the wider Kent community. We’ll be posting board member video profiles this month, highlighting each of our School Board Directors!
January is National Mentoring Month
Thank you to all our volunteering mentors who help our youth become the best students they can be. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit Communities In Schools or Glover Empower Mentoring to sign up. To mentor, volunteers are required to complete an online application, including a background check through our Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS), before beginning service.

Be In The Know
Our new board members, Joseph Bento, Tim Clark, and Awale Farah, were sworn into the school board in the school board meeting on Wednesday, December 8. Get to know our new board members through their profile pages. We are so excited to have Joe, Tim, and Awale representing our students, staff, and the KSD community throughout this upcoming year.
We have another communication tool available to distribute information, including inclement weather, emergencies, and general school information. In addition to using our automated phone and email system, we can text important messages if you choose to opt-in. Make sure your contact information is up to date through Skyward to stay informed with the latest notifications and alerts from the district.
KSD Community News
Maddie Louder (Miss Washington) recently got the opportunity to talk with three middle school leadership classes in the Kent School District during Wellness Week about mental health and how we can normalize and build pathways to overcome mental health struggles.
We are committed to engaging our community in the boundary change process and are currently recruiting parents/guardians of active students to apply. The deadline to submit applications is Wednesday, January 12, 2022.

Teacher Workshop Moved to Friday, January 28
Due to the snow closures in early January, the end of the student calendar has again been adjusted. As a result, the Teacher Workshop previously scheduled for Friday, January 21, has been moved to Friday, January 28. There will be no school on Friday, January 28. April 25 and June 20 are now school closure make-up days. If more days are necessary, they will be added to the end of the school year in June.
