We have chosen 11 Employees of the Year that exemplify our Kent School District mission of successfully preparing all students for their futures. In the 2021-2022 school year, we celebrated Kent School District (KSD) retirees for their many years of dedication and unwavering commitment to education. Retirees will be recognized at the June 8, 2022 board meeting and will receive a gift mailed to their home address.
This Months Happenings
June is Pride Month! We are proud of all of our incredible students and staff and appreciate the beautiful diversity in our community! Please join us in helping make our schools and community a place for ALL to feel socially, emotionally, and physically safe and supported.
Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, honors the end of slavery in the US and marks the day federal troops arrived in Texas in 1865, a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Join us to honor this day and learn more about its meaning.
KSD graduations are happening in person at the ShoWare Center for our comprehensive high schools and Kent-Meridian High School for our academies. We can't wait to celebrate our amazing seniors!
There will be a listening session on June 15 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to get feedback on our SRO program in the 2021-22 school year. These sessions are an opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas.
We're recruiting parents/guardians to provide input on items for a 2023 bond measure. This task force aims to make recommendations to district officials, who will present a plan to the school board. The deadline for applying is June 10.
The 2022 Kent School District Parent & Family climate survey is now open! Please complete this survey to tell us what you think about your experience at your child's school and how we are doing as a district. The survey will close on Friday, June 17.
KSD Community News
KSD classrooms were honored recently with typing awards from learning.com for being amongst the top 10% of users in Washington State. Learning.com is a typing tool used to create a curriculum and help students build keyboarding skills. They were on hand to present the awards to teachers and students.
Sound Transit stakeholders took Mill Creek students to the site of the new North Side Parking Garage as a part of a multi-year partnership with Mill Creek leadership students through the design, construction, and eventual completion of the new Parking Garage.  
If you are considering the virtual school for grades 6-12 next year, please join us on Microsoft Teams to ask questions and find out how built-in support and cross-enrollment opportunities can meet the unique needs of your student(s). There are eight drop-in sessions planned through June.
Student demographic information and annual forms can now be filled out using Skyward Family Access. This provides a quick and accessible way for families to update information such as a family address, student demographics, emergency contacts, and more. Learn more about this process.
Upcoming Summer Activities
The King County Library System's summer reading program is a fun way to improve your student's reading skills over the summer. Find out how to participate on the KCLS website.
Free nutritious meals are available to all children and teens 18-years-old and younger at select schools, apartment complexes, parks, and community centers across Kent this summer.

Youth ORCA Pass for 8th-12th Grade Students
Kent School District 8th-12th grade students can sign-up for a Free Summer Youth Orca Pass if they qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Students can sign-up using the sign-up form on the King County Metro website. For more information on the program, please visit the Summer Youth ORCA Pass website

Laptop Drop-Off Information
All four high schools, plus Kent Laboratory Academy are planning to collect devices for seniors on June 8. The remaining laptop collections for the rest of Kent School District students will be happening at their schools over the next two weeks before the last day of school on June 20. Please contact your school to find out the exact dates and drop-off locations for your student(s) school.
