Planning for next fall, celebrating our staff, and more!
Kent School District May 2021
Help Us Plan for the 2021-2022 School Year
We plan to reopen all KSD schools for in-person instruction five full days a week for all students in preschool through grade 12. The first day of school for the 2021-22 school year is August 26, 2021, for grades 1-12.
As of May 13, the health guidance for the 2021-22 school year includes:
We will continue the mandatory mitigation measures in place, including face coverings, ventilation, cleaning and disinfecting, and responding to and reporting COVID-19 cases.
We plan to follow physical distancing recommended by DOH – 3 feet in classrooms and 6 feet elsewhere – to the greatest extent possible.
We will also follow all school-related and sponsored extracurricular activities, including field trips, performing arts, and sports, in the Governor's Healthy Washington: Roadmap to Recovery guidance.
While we review the K-12 Fall 2021-2022 guidance released by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction with our KSD leaders and labor partners this spring in preparation for the next school year, we also want to hear from students, families, and staff.
What are your questions and concerns about returning to learn in-person full-time in the 2021-22 school year?
To help us address your questions and concerns, please share your thoughts in our ThoughtExchange online conversation through May 31.
This year's festive and intimate celebrations will be similar to last year, allowing each school to accommodate the required health and safety guidelines while also providing graduates and families an opportunity to celebrate this important milestone with an in-person ceremony.
The approved boundary changeswill populate the new elementary school opening in Fall 2021 by adjusting boundaries to seven neighboring schools in the Kent Valley and on Kent East Hill. Seven elementary schools are affected by the school attendance boundary changes and will see an adjustment in student enrollment. Families with students attending any of the schools listed below will receive a letter with their elementary school assignment for 2021-2022.
East Hill Elementary
Kent Elementary
Meadow Ridge Elementary
Neely-O’Brien Elementary
Panther Lake Elementary
Scenic Hill Elementary
Springbrook Elementary
Student(s) not attending one of these seven schools will not be affected by the boundary changes.
