NEW IN THE ILLINOIS MEDICAL DISTRICT: SEPTEMBER 2018
FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Last week, the IMD joined the CTA, Mayor Emanuel and Aldermen Burnett and Ervin for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly renovated Paulina stationhouse at the IMD Blue Line stop.  Many of our partners are planning for growth and expansion, and the IMD Blue Line stop is a key component in helping us achieve our vision for the future of the district as a major health innovation hub.
WALTER MITCHELL/CITY OF CHICAGO
The IMD Blue Line stop sits at the "gateway" to the District, and provides convenient access to the downtown area, the airport and surrounding region.  The newly modernized station makes transit a more appealing option for commuters who have a business, educational, healthcare or other needs in the District. It is a great example of the bold steps toward swift progress that are taking place in the IMD.

Finally, I'd like to wish all of our IMD partners a safe and happy Labor Day weekend.

SMART STREET LIGHTING WORKSHOP
On August 15, the IMD hosted a Smart Street Lighting workshop for the State of Illinois Department of Innovation and Technology, with over 125 people representing many Illinois municipalities and businesses in attendance. Smart street lighting replaces older street lights with higher quality, longer-life LED lights. Potential benefits include energy savings, wireless broadband, air quality, traffic and pedestrian sensors. This was a successful event for the IMD, as we explore smart city technologies to benefit our community, and provide a venue to spread this technology more broadly.
