BIG NEWS!
We've just heard from our friends at the PRHC Foundation that they have successfully completed their $1.9 million campaign to fund three new mammography machines for PRHC's Breast Assessment Centre, and bring 3-D breast imaging to our region for the first time.
Festival participants, donors, sponsors and volunteers played a
HUGE
role in the success of this campaign, contributing a whopping $542,681.04 - almost 30% of the total - through the 2015, 2016, and 2017 events!
As Dr. Rola Shaheen, PRHC’s Chief of Radiology and Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging told us back in 2015, the new technology will give her and her colleagues the ability to look at the breast from many angles to confidently determine if anything looks suspicious. This will enable the detection of smaller tumours and decrease the need for patient callbacks - reducing patient anxiety.
The Foundation shared that the Breast Assessment Centre has received all the necessary approvals and the procurement process is well underway. We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
In the meantime, on behalf of the Festival organizing committee, Survivors Abreast, the PRHC Foundation and everyone at Peterborough Regional Health Centre and the Breast Assessment Centre,
thank you
.
The PRHC Foundation will be sending more great news and inspiring stories straight to your inbox over the coming weeks so stay tuned!
