Savoring Summer — Supporting Shops & Restaurants
As we head into the final stretch of August, there is still plenty of summer left to enjoy—and every reason to enjoy it locally.
Our restaurants, cafés, shops and small businesses continue to be an essential part of the recovery of Malibu and Pacific Palisades. Stop in, make the reservation, meet a friend for coffee, shop locally. Every visit matters. There is good momentum to build on. Palisades Village has reopened, bringing energy and activity back to the heart of the community, and we were thrilled to welcome the return of the Raw Inspiration Farmers Market this week. We are also delighted to introduce a terrific group of new PaliBu members in this issue—another encouraging sign of businesses investing in our communities and their future.
At the same time, we are reaching an important milestone in the broader recovery. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (DPH) is recommending that the Board of Supervisors end the local public health emergency declared on January 10, 2025, in response to the windstorm and critical fire events. As the Board prepares to consider that recommendation, we want our business community to be aware of it—and we want to hear from you. What does ending the public health emergency mean for your business or your recovery? Are there concerns or considerations you believe should be raised before the Board acts? As August winds down, let’s keep eating out, trying new places, spending quality time in cafes and supporting the shops and businesses investing in our recovery. From Pacific Palisades to Malibu, the excitement and the refined coastal signature is back. At the same time, we continue to advocate for our business community through alliances, exclusive sit-downs and targeted outreach ensuring the PaliBu community is front and center.

A Grand Opening, A Fabulous Finale and a Ribbon Cutting
Congratulations to Palisades Village on its Grand Reopening—a major milestone and a welcome return of energy, activity and familiar gathering places to the heart of Pacific Palisades.
And just days later, we celebrated another important return with a Chamber ribbon cutting for the Raw Inspiration Palisades Farmers Market, now back every Wednesday from 1:30–4:30 PM on Swarthmore Avenue.

Pacific Palisades once again transforms into Southern California's largest one-day recovery and rebuilding resource event.
Save the date for the PaliBu Resource & Recovery Expo on Sunday, October 11—our final Expo of the year, returning to Pacific Palisades with an expanded footprint and even more ways to connect, learn and move recovery forward.
As the region’s premier resource, recovery and resilience event, the Expo brings together architects, builders, public agencies and offices, nonprofit organizations, businesses, recovery professionals, vendors and subject-matter experts in one place. A full program of expert panels and conversations will offer practical insight into rebuilding and the issues shaping the next phase of recovery.

MALIBU MOVES: MOVE FOR MALIBU
Malibu’s Running & Walking Weekend Returns to Zuma Beach: October 24–25
Mark your calendars — Malibu Moves returns to Zuma Beach October 24 & 25, 2026, bringing thousands of runners, walkers, families and supporters together for a weekend celebrating movement, community and Malibu. Now in its third year, Malibu Moves has grown into much more than a race. Founded by PaliBu Board Director Erica Segel, the event was built around a simple idea: movement can bring people together — and that collective energy can be turned into meaningful impact for the community.
This year’s theme says it best:
“I Move for Malibu. What Do You Move For?”
MORE THAN A FINISH LINE
Malibu Moves has made community giving central to its mission, donating more than $110,000 in its first two years to local causes. In 2025 alone, participants helped raise more than $83,000 for local schools and fire recovery efforts. And that mission continues in 2026: 100% of Malibu Moves profits are donated to support local schools and fire recovery.
