Get to Know Us: Yaumara Moreno
I was born in Cuba and earned a degree in Economics. However, because of the oppressive nature of the system, I had limited opportunities, and so, I left the island that I loved so much in search of freedom and a better way of life. I found this better way of life in the United States, my adopted country. I discovered many opportunities in the U.S., and found that, with hard work, perseverance, and an eagerness to learn, one could fulfill their dreams. 

I started working for Del Amo Law in 2004 as a file clerk. Today, I am the Office Manager and Legal Assistant for Loan Modification. Del Amo Law gives its employees the opportunity to advance from within. We not only work as a team but as a family. 

Over seventeen years, Del Amo Law has provided me with patient instruction to improve professionally. Here, every employee can have their voice heard and considered on important decisions affecting the company and its future. I have developed a long-lasting relationship with my coworkers as we encourage each other. Del Amo Law allows us to pursue other interests. In my case, I acquired my Mortgage License, which I now balance with my other duties. Looking back, I enjoy what I do with people I respect and call family.

I value independence and growth. I am proud of the personal and professional goals I have achieved as well as the others I am still working to achieve. I have a motto that has driven me through my years in life: achieve all your goals and never run out of them; ask things, but don't always depend on people to give you the answer; find it yourself. 

This Month in History

This month is filled with important dates, which makes it the reason why Carter G. Woodson – the Father of Black History – chose it.

President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas had birthdays during the second week and February 1 is National Freedom Day to commemorate the abolition of slavery. Kamala Harris:
It is key to highlight the figure of Kamala Harris during this Black History Month. Since January 20th, 2021, Kamala Harris is serving as the 46th Vice-President of the United States and among her many “first times” in U.S. history are achieved: first woman, first Black American, and the first South Asian American to be elected as Vice-President. She is the first highest ranked African American Female within the U.S. Government.

"In a sense we have come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness..."
It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned... 
We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation..."
