Get to Know Us: Darrani Rodriguez

Hello, my name is Darrani Rodriguez. I am a South Florida girl, born in Miami-Dade County. I moved to New York City for several years but ended up back in the place I love for middle and high school, Miami -Dade County.

I’m an avid animal lover and have a wonderful puppy named Indie. I’d like to volunteer at an animal shelter to help with other animals in need. I am currently studying to be a nurse someday.

Working at Del Amo Law for the past six years has been a great experience, as the firm is so dedicated to the best possible outcome for their clients. I have learned how to perform excellent client services here which will help me throughout my life. It has been a totally beneficial situation.

AAPI Heritage Month
Throughout the United States of America since 1977 the Asian Pacific Heritage Month is commemorated. A broad term to celebrate Asians and Pacific Islanders in the US. The month of May was chosen because two key events took place: first, on May 7th, 1843 the first Japanese immigrated to the US and second, on May 10th, 1869 the transcontinental railroad was completed where the majority of workers were Chinese immigrants. Since then, communities celebrate the achievements and contributions of Asian and Pacific Americans with festivals and educational events that nurture’s our understanding and empathy on the topic. Thus, many historical moments have led to the exclusion and discrimination of Asian and Pacific Americans within the US. It is then our responsibility to take this time to learn and help our communities grow stronger.

Steven Yeun
Born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Michigan, Steven Yeun is the first Asian-American nominee for Best Actor. In regards to that position the actor says: “I’m happy to serve a larger moment for the community. And I’m happy to push narratives and show who we are because I am that, too. I am an Asian American and the pride I have for that is immense.” Steven Yeun has starred in different roles throughout his career such as The Walking Dead and Minari – the semi-autobiographical film which set him for an Oscar nomination. Despite his current fame, he comes from humble origins. He obtained his degree in psychology with a concentration in neuroscience from Kalamazoo College where he got involved in acting and improvisation. Steadily, he continued to work on his passion for acting which has eventually allowed him to be in the position he is today.

Make An Impact

A common misconception about hula is that it's a dance tradition strictly for women. Nope. In ancient Hawai'i, men were the first to dance hula, and the best dancers were even chosen to become warriors.
Quote of the Month

Let’s unify.
Let’s love.
Let’s respect.
Let’s forgive.
Let’s learn.
