The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) has two new opportunities for highly-motivated individuals to join our professional staff and work on cutting-edge issues impacting Canadian Muslim communities.
NCCM is currently hiring for a Toronto-based Advocacy Coordinator and a Montreal-based Communications Coordinator.

Position: Advocacy Coordinator (term)
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Start date: Immediate Expected hours of work: 30 - 35 hours per week (part-time) Compensation: Commensurate with experience & qualifications
Key Duties:
The Advocacy Coordinator will help organize and execute the NCCM's local, national and regional advocacy efforts and work to coordinate NCCM teams across the country.
Liaise with stakeholders and volunteers on issues concerning NCCM's mandate.
Collaborate with NCCM staff on the recruitment of cross-country team members.
Set-up and deliver advocacy training sessions for regional teams.
Engage partners, policymakers, and local officials on advocacy issues.
Research and write reports, briefs and presentations.
Coordinate with and report to the NCCM's national office.
Represent NCCM at events and in local media and travel as needed.
Qualifications:
University or post-secondary education in political science, public policy or related field.
Solid understanding of the NCCM's mission and mandate as well as public policy and Canadian politics. Previous public advocacy experience is preferred.
Ability to work under tight timelines in an efficient and focused manner.
Detail-oriented and strong written & oral communication abilities.

Position: Communications Coordinator (permanent)
Location: Montreal, Quebec

Key Duties:
The Communications Coordinator will serve as the organization's bilingual spokesperson in Quebec and will support the growing work of NCCM's Communications Department.
Serve as NCCM's primary French-language spokesperson.
Work closely with and support the Communications Director on issues management and developing key messages.
Monitor local and national news media, identify issues and engage in media relations.
Respond to media inquiries and organize press events.
Write news releases, media advisories and other communications products.
Translate documents as needed.
Liaise with local journalists and newsrooms on issues impacting Canadian Muslims.
Engage stakeholders, partners and local officials and travel as needed.
Qualifications:
University or post-secondary education in communications, journalism, political science or public relations.
Solid understanding of the NCCM's mission and mandate.
Fully bilingual: excellent French & English oral and written communication abilities.
Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of media relations.
Knowledge of Quebec public affairs and Canadian politics is preferred.
Ability to write in CP style.
Ability to work under tight timelines in an efficient and focused manner.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle competing priorities.
