Everybody loves a neighborhood park. We have two new ones coming!

This month, Pinellas County is breaking ground on two new community parks. High Point Community Park (shown in a project rendering) is a partnership between the County, Pinellas County Schools and the City of Largo. The park will serve High Point Elementary School students during school hours and will be open to the High Point community after school hours and on weekends. It will have athletic fields, basketball courts, a playground and a walking trail. Dansville Community Park will be located in the Greater Ridgecrest area and will include a multi-use path, sidewalk, benches, a picnic shelter and more.

Don't blow up their day: Drop off unwanted rechargeable batteries

Did you know that rechargeable batteries can explode and cause fires when they are thrown away with your regular trash or recycling? All it takes is one battery to cause a fire, which can harm workers, damage equipment and ruin perfectly good loads of recyclable material. Free battery drop-off centers are available throughout Pinellas County, including at stores like Home Depot, Lowe’s and Batteries Plus Bulbs. For more information on what types of batteries need to be taken to a drop-off center and to find a location near you, visit the Where Does It Go? Search Tool.

911 calls from 2023's Hurricane Idalia

Just one year ago, Pinellas County had to evacuate many coastal and low-lying areas under threat from Hurricane Idalia. Though the storm stayed far from our shores, its rain and wind caused the worst flooding in recent memory. Do you know your storm surge risk? Check out this video of real calls from those who didn't evacuate then check your own evacuation zone as we move into peak season this month.

She puts bicyclist and pedestrian safety first

With the kids back in school, we want to introduce you to Joan Rice, our multimodal safety project coordinator in the Public Works Transportation Division. She works to make our roads safer and traffic flow easier. See why Joan says safety matters so much to her in a recent I Am Pinellas, our employee spotlight video series.

Help protect our sea life and our waterways

Pinellas County’s fertilizer ordinance restricts fertilizer use year-round to protect our waterways. Fertilizer with nitrogen cannot be used during the rainy season (June 1-Sept. 30). Fertilizer with phosphorous cannot be used at any time without confirmation it’s needed through a soil test. Learn more by watching this video and visiting our Fertilizer and Landscape Information page.
