, visiting associate professor of biological sciences at URI, specializes in intertidal and deep-sea ecology. His research focuses on examining reefs by " using a mixture of natural history observation, experimentation and novel technologies to untangle the ecology of these enigmatic habitats." (from

has collaborated with artist and educator Cynthia Beth Rubin to present,
"Do Plankton Have Feelings,"
an exhibit at
Artspace
in New Haven of
microscopic plankton through which "Rubin emphasizes the energy of the living organisms...into an expressive portrait." (from Artspace's website)

Dr. Susanne Menden-Deuer
's research focuses on
on marine planktonic food web structure and function. She has also had a long standing collaboration with Rubin to develop compelling science visualizations.
