Guys, pay attention to nutrition labels! — June 29, 2022
June is Men’s Health Month. As we age, it’s important we keep our minds sharp as well as improve quality of life. There are specific vitamins and minerals vital to men’s health. Remember: never restrict, always increase healthy foods. Never forget about physical activity. Being physically active helps older men rev up metabolism, build and strengthen muscles, maintain bone health and increase energy levels. Physical activity also helps to lift your spirits.

Jennifer Artero, registered nurse & diabetes educator at the TakeCare Wellness Center, talks about how the sequence of eating foods can reduce a person’s glucose spike by up to 75%. The correct order is veggies first, proteins and fats second, starches, carbohydrates third, and sugars are last. A simple tip: A person with diabetes should never eat sugary desserts on an empty stomach because it will definitely “jump spike” your blood sugar level immediately.
