The bbe DaphTox II : A powerful solution for water toxicity assessment continuous visual analysis of daphnia behavior.
bbe Moldaenke GmbH has developed and produced measuring instruments and software to assess and manage water quality for more than 20 years . Made for use in oceanography, limnology, drinking water monitoring, river dam monitoring, bathing water analysis, supervision of aqua culture systems and environmental assessment, these instruments have come to be relied upon as the industry standard.
New sensitive method to detect hazardous compounds in water from rivers, plants, and more… Observe daphnids under the influence of constantly running sample water.
Sensitive detection of toxic substances in water via computer-assisted digital image analysis
Daphnia are established test organisms to indicate water quality. The bbe Daphnia Toximeter II observes daphnia under the influence of constantly running sample water. Based on the Extended Dynamic Daphnia Test (EDDT) , a proven method used widely in Europe and other parts of the world, bbe developed the 24/7 sensitive method to detect hazardous compounds in water from rivers (source-water protection), plants, distribution systems and production drains to preserve human health and to monitor water.
Early warning system
Use the DaphTox II as an early warning system to rapidly detect dissolved toxic compounds including p esticides, neurotoxins and warfare agents. It is well suited to detect wilful (terrorist attacks) or negligent incidents (spills, accidents).

Long-term monitoring
The bbe Daphnia Toximeter II can also be used for long-term monitoring for the “strategic” evaluation of water quality and as a valuable tool in hazard management. The bbe Daphnia Toximeter II has been deployed worldwide now for over 12 years.
  • 1- or 2-chamber systems with up to 10 daphnia each
  • Easily removable daphnia chamber - prevents air bubbles and increases detection rate
  • Integrated sample treatment (microfiltration, ultrasonic cleaning and preheating)
  • Air-cooled peltier element - no separate cooling water
  • Automatic, prepared concentrated algae feeder syringe - no algae culture necessary
  • Compact housing: IP54 security protection class
  • 15” touchscreen PC, Windows XP, splash-proof flexible USB keyboard
  • Alarm evaluation with bbe alarm database software
  • Hardware diagnostic
  • Remote control via software (optional)
  • Low maintenance, few consumables
Toxicity index
The concept of the toxicity index is based on the evaluation of certain measurands, such as speed or height, and changes in these measurands. Only when 2 or more of the measurands simultaneously show unusual results within a fixed period of time does the DaphTox II trigger an alarm.

Software
bbe alarm software is used to record and analyze the data.

The most important features are:

  • Determination of different behavioral patterns
  • alarm analysis
  • saving of data and parameters
  • graphic display of all measurement values
  • Online display
  • Drift correction
  • Parameterization of the measurements
  • Data export to Excel or text files
  • Print function
Mobility & analysis of daphnia
The method of image analysis enables a series of measurement methods and plausibility tests to assess the daphnia behavior using different criteria.
