Participate in Study on Canadian Co-ops and COVID-19

How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected Canadian co-operatives and mutuals? How have they adapted or responded to the COVID-19 pandemic? Is the co-operative difference apparent in this time of crisis? We are engaged in a multi-year partnered research project investigating these questions.

This research project, commissioned by Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC), will be carried out by the centre, The Research & Education Institute for Cooperatives & Mutuals (IRECUS) of the Université de Sherbrooke, and the Shannon School of Business at Cape Breton University.

In July, we launched a short survey intended for the Canadian co-operative sector. If your organization is a non-financial or a financial co-op, mutual, federation or association, we would like to hear from you to know how your organization is dealing with the pandemic.

Our Masters students and alumni say YES! We were so pleased to have offered a panel discussion on this topic featuring Michelle Iversen, Adam Trott, Susanna Collins and Fred Medlicott as part of the Association for Cooperative Educators 2021 Virtual Institute.

"Networking is big for me. Seeing people in your cohort in leadership in their co-ops makes you a better leader in your own co-op.” - Michelle Iversen, COO, Co-operative Housing Federation of Brtish Columbia (Canada) and 3rd year Master's student

Co-operative Research Leading up to the International Congress:

A Conversation with Sonja Novkovic

ICCM Academic Director, Dr. Sonja Novkovic, was interviewed by the International Cooperative Alliance on co-operative research leading up to the World Cooperative Congress in 2021.

"It is increasingly clear that the cooperative identity and the structure of cooperative enterprises are relevant, unique, and identifiable. A cooperative can be different things to different people, but the ICA’s Statement of Cooperative Identity unifies a diverse group of cooperative enterprises within a very diverse movement and helps distinguish cooperative enterprises from other enterprises.”
