Participate in Study on Canadian Co-ops and COVID-19

How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected Canadian co-operatives and mutuals? How have they adapted or responded to the COVID-19 pandemic? Is the co-operative difference apparent in this time of crisis? We are engaged in a multi-year partnered research project investigating these questions.

This research project, commissioned by Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC), will be carried out by the centre, The Research & Education Institute for Cooperatives & Mutuals (IRECUS) of the Université de Sherbrooke, and the Shannon School of Business at Cape Breton University.

In July, we launched a short survey intended for the Canadian co-operative sector. If your organization is a non-financial or a financial co-op, mutual, federation or association, we would like to hear from you to know how your organization is dealing with the pandemic.

Co-operative Research Leading up to the International Congress:

A Conversation with Sonja Novkovic

ICCM Academic Director, Dr. Sonja Novkovic, was interviewed by the International Cooperative Alliance on co-operative research leading up to the World Cooperative Congress in 2021.

"It is increasingly clear that the cooperative identity and the structure of cooperative enterprises are relevant, unique, and identifiable. A cooperative can be different things to different people, but the ICA’s Statement of Cooperative Identity unifies a diverse group of cooperative enterprises within a very diverse movement and helps distinguish cooperative enterprises from other enterprises.”
