Always make the best choice
This year, we exceeded our reserved spots and closed reservations down at 100 campers whom we hosted at beautiful Lakeside Camp in Forest Falls, California. We even had a youth group from Portola, CA, near Reno! The weekend was filled with workshops, worship, games, delicious food, and most importantly, the Word of God! The students enjoyed God’s creation on hikes or by cooling down in the lake, kayaking, or just going down the slide. For those who were brave, they were able to go on a zip line or ride the giant swing. Saturday night, we hosted an OPEN MIC. Our youth showed off their talents as musicians, rappers, and even comedians. Thank you to our workshop leaders: Pastor Noel Hacegaba, Pastor Benjamin Vincent, Pastor Oswaldo Sanchez, and Sister Najma London. Thank you to Dourly Galvez and the Committee for all their hard work and for making this camp possible. Thank you to parents, pastors and chaperones. And a huge thank you to our weekend guest speaker, Pastor Devon London.

CHURCH PLANTS
Covenant Bible Church, Georgetown, TX

With the help of Pacific Church Network, Pastor Joel Webbon planted Covenent Bible Church in 2021. They now have about 200 people. Starting in Pastor Joel Webbon's home, they grew too big and rented out a restaurant and now a dance hall in Georgetown, TX. Their prayer request is to find a better location. Would you pray with them? Covenant Bible Church is one of three church plants PCN is now supporting. The other two churches are in Palm Springs and on the island of Guam.

On Sunday, August 13, Lucas Park will be installed as the new lead pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Huntington Beach, CA. Lucas and his wife Su, along with their three children, Averi, Kenedi, and Lawson, have moved to Huntington Beach from Glendora, CA where Lucas served as missions pastor with Foothill Church. Lucas was born in Northern Ireland and has been a church planter, lead pastor, and director with Acts29, over his many years of ministry. Last month, Calvary members overwhelmingly affirmed him to become the new lead pastor. There will be a five-month transition period as Pat Cottrell, the Pastor of Calvary for the last 33 years, helps Lucas begin his new position. | |

Every year, Love Life partners with thousands of believers from local churches and community leaders to prayer walk outside the darkest places in our cities – the local abortion center. Every prayer walk consists of a time of prayer and worship. Jim Smith had a chance to join this evangelical group in Pomona recently and saw a young women decide to keep her baby. Praise God! They are looking for churches to join them once a year on a Saturday for prayer. This is a simple and yet practical venue to be active in our faith. Love Life provides topics to pray for and counselors actively involved in sharing the love of Jesus and to save a life. | |

Pastor Todd Thompson is excited about a simple, yet effective ministry of Grace Church in their community called, "Community Clothes Closet." Every 2nd and 3rd Saturday, from 9:30 -11:00, anyone can come in and walk away with one bag of clothing for free. Several volunteers in the church oversee this ministry, and the community donates clothing throughout the months because they "know it will go to someone in the community."
Journey of Faith, Bellflower, also has a community food and clothing outreach called "His Table." This volunteer ministry provides food and clothing to people in need every Saturday, along with a children's ministry, Bible Study, and message. Breakfast is at 9:30, and is lunch served at 11:30.

SUPPORT Increasing Penalties for Human Trafficking (SB 14)

SB 14 will classify the trafficking of a minor as a serious felony, bringing justice to victims of human trafficking. Current law does not classify the human trafficking of a minor as a serious crime and this bill will serve as a deterrent for those who engage in the trafficking of a minor. SB 14 will also classify trafficking of a minor as a crime under the Three Strikes Law. Under this law, a person who has been previously convicted of two or more “serious” OR “violent” felonies can receive a higher prison sentence. SB 14 is a step in giving justice to the children and teens who have been trafficked. The CA Assembly Appropriations Committee has not yet scheduled a hearing for SB 14. We need to urge the committee members to hear and vote “YES” on SB 14. | |

GOING THROUGH A DRY SPELL? | |

I read this article, and perhaps some of you might have as well, but I thought it was encouraging for those going through a tough time right now. Even if you’re in an easier season, these are good reminders to help in times down the road.
In 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, Paul writes that eternal rewards far outweighed the temporary pain he was experiencing. “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (NIV).
1. Feelings are unreliable.
2. Life has both good and bad times.
3. Dry seasons help build our character.
4. You’re serving God, not just people.
5. Your ministry makes an eternal difference.
6. You’ll have eternal rewards.
7. You’ll spend forever with Jesus.
So I end with some sayings I've heard over the years, which have truth in them. Hang in there. We are in a battle. We're not home yet. Don't shoot our wounded. The best is yet to come.
