New Synthetic Opioid Causes Rise in Overdose Deaths

The drug isotonitazene, also known as “iso,” has been making headlines as overdose deaths continue to increase. Isotonitazene, a manmade version of the highly potent and addictive opioid etonitazene, is similar in strength to fentanyl and commonly found in pill form. Isotonitazene began being linked to overdose deaths in August 2019 and is now responsible for around 40 to 50 deaths a month in the United States.

FMCSA Issues Notice of Enforcement Discretion
R ecognizing some organization may struggle to fully comply with their requirements around random drug testing as a result of COVID-19, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued notice of enforcement discretion.

The notices explains that while businesses who can comply with federal testing requirements must continue to do so, for those who are unable to comply because of COVID-19, "the Agency may exercise discretion to determine not to enforce the minimum annual percentage random testing rates..."
