Good evening, San Gabriel

We're quickly approaching the San Gabriel Lunar New Year Festival on February 8 in the Mission District! This year features a variety of food trucks, a large marketplace and traditional and contemporary artists and entertainers. For our readers who happen to be on Facebook, we encourage you to follow the event for the latest announcements as they occur.

Also, please note that City Hall will be closed on January 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Now, here is what's making news for the week of January 15, 2020:
New operating hours at the Hayes House & Museum
Beginning this month, the Hayes House and Museum at 546 West Broadway will be open on the third Wednesday of every month from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Select operating days include February 19, March 18, April 15, May 20 and June 17. In addition, the Ramona Parlor #9 of the Native Sons of the Golden West will be open during the same time to offer guests a chance to see both museums to experience a piece of San Gabriel Valley history.
Playhouse screens comedy classics this Sunday
Watch comic genius Buster Keaton's "Cops" and "Sherlock, Jr." with live accompaniment on the Mighty Wurlitzer on Sunday, January 19 at 2:30 p.m.

Turner Classic Movies calls "Sherlock, Jr." one of "Keaton’s best loved films, equally embraced by long time aficionados as well as newcomers to silent comedy."
Education and Family Resource Expo held January 26
The San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce is holding its third annual Education and Family Resource Expo on Sunday, January 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel.

The expo will allow schools, tutors, book stores, enrichment programs, fitness instruction, after and before-school programs and family resources to network and market. Admission is free and parking is complimentary.
Non-profit SGK9s.org now selling K9 Bentley calendars
Non-profit SGK9s.org is now selling 2020 calendars featuring K9 Bentley of the San Gabriel Police Department for $15. If you'd like to purchase a calendar, you may place your order online, via phone at 626.208.7066 or in person at the San Gabriel Police Department on Monday or Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
