Our little state has been hit by a big tragedy, and I don't think we will ever be the same - but we will get through this together.
I moved to Rhode Island full-time almost 3 years ago from New York. I love working in news - especially public media - not only because it's such a powerful resource, but because the stories I get to post every week make me fall more in love with this wonderful state. Every day, I discover something new about Rhode Island, whether it's a fun piece of history or a local staple (I still have yet to try this "Awful, Awful" everyone talks about).
This state is one of a kind; from its thriving music and arts scene to its incredible food, beautiful coastal drives, and even its unique vocabulary. But what I love most is the power of its community. Despite this unimaginable tragedy, I'm moved by how Rhode Islanders have come together.
To see local cafes offering comforting food and coffee to first responders and students, small businesses choosing to close to protect their employees during a crucial holiday weekend, and neighbors spreading messages of solidarity online, really makes this the smallest state with the biggest heart.
I am proud to call Rhode Island my home. Thank you to the community that never backs down.
